2026 is proving to be an exciting year for Japanese drama fans, as Netflix is set to release the new series Sounds of Winter next week.

After the announcement of Gimbap and Onigiri and Silent Truth, Netflix has added another Japanese drama, Sounds of Winter, to this year's release list, leaving fans excited. The drama falls into the romance genre.

Directed by Imaizumi Rikiya and Yamashita Nobuhiro, the drama is also known by the titles Fuyu no Nanka sa, Haru no Nanka ne, and Something About Winter, Something About Spring.

The synopsis on Netflix reads:

"After past breakups and unfulfilled romances leave novelist Ayana reluctant to truly fall in love, she tries to face her current relationship sincerely."

When and where to watch the Sounds of Winter?

Sounds of Winter is originally releasing on January 14 and will be airing on NTV and TVer. However, international fans will have to wait for over a week to stream it on Netflix. The streaming platform will release its first episode on January 23.

It is reported to have a total of ten episodes, following the usual Japanese drama format. As per the original release schedule, the drama will be running on a weekly release schedule with a new episode dropping every Wednesday.

Going by the Netflix schedule, viewers will get to watch a new episode of the drama every Friday, giving viewers a way to unwind over the weekend.

  • Ryo Narita as Yukio Saeki: Boyfriend of Ayana, who works as a hairdresser
  • Amane Okayama as Kotaro Hayase: Admirer of Ayana who shares a close bond with her. He even proposes to her. However, Ayana turns down his proposal
  • Rintaro Mizusawa as Wachi: Ayana's friend who works in a coffee shop

What is Sounds of Winter about?

The story of the Japanese drama revolves around Tsuchida Ayana, a character played by Sugisaki Hana, who is in her late twenties and is exploring love and its importance while dating her boyfriend, Yukio.

Ayana's life is mostly surrounded by her work as a novelist and a part-timer at an apparel store. At the same time, she is unsure about her feelings and wants to keep herself away from fully falling in love, which forms the core of the story.

After starring together in Ochoiyan, Hana Sugisaki and Ryo Narita are reuniting once again in this drama, which has left fans excited.
