The series revolves around Sam Fisher, who is now an old man and has given up on his espionage life. However, a global threat forces him to join his black-ops team of the Fourth Echelon again.

At the center of the conspiracy is Displace International, the company formerly owned by Sam’s friend turned enemy Douglas Shetland. Douglas’ children and half-siblings, Diana and Charlie, now run the company, but it leads to trouble for the world, which forces Sam to end his retirement.

He then teams up with a younger agent, Zinnia McKenna, and finds support from his old teammate Anna Grimsdottir. The team then tries to get to the roots of the conspiracy and save the world. Talking about the storyline, lead writer Derek Kolstad revealed why he chose to make Sam an old man in the television adaptation and said in an interview with IGN:

“They let me do Old Man Sam and to actually use everything in the video games and all the ancillaries as his past resume as canon. That one to me was fun. [The show] respects the games that I loved and the character I just adored.”
