With the return of Gi-hun in Squid Game Season 3, it’s clear that the remaining contestants will get even more brutal challenges. But what actually has me most excited is Player 246, whose situation remained unresolved at the end of the previous season.
We never actually saw his body after he was shot, and that created numerous fan theories. And then, of course, the new teaser went out and, for a brief moment, you see a player being scanned — and if you freeze it for a second and take a close look, he bears a close resemblance to Gyeong-seok.
The green uniform, the ear being scanned, even the hairdo — everything indicates that Player 246 is alive. Ever since Squid Game Season 2 ended, there’s been talk that the pink guard who knew his story helped him escape death, possibly during the rebellion.
So, if he turns out to be alive, this is where my concern begins for Player 246's story in Squid Game Season 3. He will be pushed towards more danger, and no one knows if they'll survive till the end.

Squid Game Season 3 teaser hints Player 246 is alive
Squid Game Season 2 introduced a whole new set of characters or players, and among them is Gyeong-seok (Player 246). He’s not someone who enters the deadly competition out of greed or thrill, but has a deeply personal reason.
Gyeong-seok is a devoted single father with one mission: to save his young daughter, Na-yeon, who is battling a severe form of blood cancer. Since the required medical treatment is extremely costly and isn’t covered by insurance, he finds himself with no option but to risk his life in the game to try and earn the money she needs to survive.
Soon after entering the deadly game, Gyeong-seok becomes popular for his calmness. Interestingly, one of the guards, named Kang No-eul, or Pink Guard 001, knows Player 246 and his story.
She herself has joined the game to find her lost child, and after witnessing Gyeon-seok, No-eul is expected to help him in Squid Game Season 3. This means the two will risk their lives again to ensure survival and escape the Island.
However, it won't be an easy task. Each player is desperate to win, and even the other Pink Guards dislike No-eul. This puts her and Gyeon-seok in more danger, and I just want them to survive for their kids in Squid Game Season 3.

Why Player 246's death would hurt the most in Squid Game Season 3

Gyeong-seok is more than just another player in Squid Game Season 3—he's a father attempting to save his daughter's life. The only way he can get the money for Na-yeon’s cancer treatment is by winning the cash prize.
That emotional weight makes his journey deeply personal and heartbreaking. Unlike others, he’s risking his life purely out of love. Player 246 never chose violence to defend himself, and his bond with No-eul added hope to his arc.
These two parents are trying to survive for their children, and if Gyeong-seok meets a tragic end in Season 3, it would feel like the show is crushing the only bit of light left. So, killing him off would be too cruel and heartbreaking.
