And Just Like That: Kristin Davis’s comments on the show’s critical response
And Just Like That followed the lives of the Sex and the City characters, now in their fifties. The show narrated how friends tried to balance their professional and personal lives. Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie got back together with Aiden and then broke up in the final season.
Other than Carrie, several other characters also went through major life changes while navigating their lives, now as middle-aged women. One of those characters is Kristin Davis’s Charlotte, whose husband, Harry, was diagnosed with cancer in the final season.
It was a difficult time in her life as she tried to hide the news from her friends while also supporting him in any way possible. With new storylines and struggles, these beloved characters came back on the screen. However, the show ended up receiving mixed reviews.
In the recent Hollywood Reporter interview, Davis addressed the lukewarm response of fans to And Just Like That and shared that she was too gullible to see how the fans would perceive the show. To add to her previous comment, she stated:
"It’s been very, very weird, the whole trying to come back with this different, similar show, right? We were very clear about [how] it’s a different show [but] same characters — which I really think I was naive about how weird that was for people, for our fans."
She further shared that they could not understand the confusion behind the viewers’ feelings about their show, where the characters were trying to deal with and talk about the issues that people in their fifties would go through. She said:
"We didn’t really understand the depth of confusion and/or I guess struggle about us aging and trying to talk about the things that you talk about and deal with in your fifties. It’s like a lot of people have some super strong feelings about it."
Davis also discussed feeling confused about how viewers were trying to convey their expectations, feelings, and disappointments toward And Just Like That. She revealed that she was still trying to understand the ‘strong feelings’ that people have felt toward their show.
