One of the most terrifying villains of Stranger Things is Vecna.

Once known as Henry Creel, he was a boy with strange psychic powers who appeared without warning. His ability to move objects and control minds grew darker after his family moved to Hawkins. Dr. Brenner captured him and made him the first test subject in the secret lab.

Later, Henry tricked Eleven into freeing him from his implant and carried out a brutal massacre. He was powerless against Eleven, who defended herself in a fierce battle of the psychic and sent him to the Upside Down. He becomes Vecna when mixed with a malevolent force.

One of the show’s secrets is the tragic transformation of a disturbed youngster into a nightmare. This article will explain in detail how Vecna might have actually gotten his powers in Stranger Things.

Stranger Things fans were intrigued by how Henry Creel's abilities manifested themselves when his family relocated to Hawkins. Some of the fans speculated that there was a certain weird force in the town itself that lowered the barrier between the two worlds. A user on Reddit says,

"I think the Mind Flayer always had the ability to subjugate others to its will, but it had no idea it could do that (or had ever had a reason to do so) before Henry came along. Henry taught it to fear, and to hate, and to conquer. He taught it viciousness and savagery and violence. And he taught it to think, at the same time. It, in turn, taught the other creatures of the Upside Down the same new tricks, via forcible assimilation. Thus was Henry's uncorrupted ecosystem utterly subverted and destroyed by man.
In the end, Henry is not so different from Papa. He realised he could not achieve greatness on his own, so he sought to gain it through others. Henry knew he could never get revenge on his own, so he sought to gain the power he needed from an external source. And he's been manipulating his personal 001 to become a monstrous creature since first contact. He's so blinded by rage he can't see it, but he grew up to be his Papas boy."

This theory suggests Henry felt the difference as soon as he arrived. In addition, it revealed powers he had never known he possessed. Mr. Clarke’s classroom discussion about a thin-dimensional wall fits this concept perfectly. It's possible that Henry was more perceptive of the supernatural elements in his environment than other kids. Hawkins likely gave him the spark that turned his hidden powers into something far greater.

In Stranger Things, Henry Creel’s abilities grew stronger as he aged. He could move small objects when he was younger, but as a teenager, he could break bones & control multiple species at once. Dr. Brenner noticed that this was a dangerous development and was worried about what Henry could do.

To keep him under control, Brenner placed a chip in his neck that blocked most of his abilities. After Henry persuaded Eleen to take it off, he regained even more power. Then he killed all the children in Hawkins Lab and played fearful mind games as his most lethal weapon.

Stranger Things showed us the story of Henry Creel being Vecna when Eleven pushed him into the Upside Down. In that foreign world, he discovered an evil force that he could mold and make to do whatever he wanted. He used it to create the spider-like Mind Flayer that later spread fear across Hawkins. A Reddit user said,

"I feel as though pre-Henry Mindflayer was just a primordial essence; Henry gave it form and consciousness."

Henry turned into an explorer of this alien place and learned how to bend its rules to his will. Over time, he developed the ability to control demodogs & demobats & ensnare victims in horrifying images. The Upside Down gave him endless strength and helped him achieve the godlike dominance he always wanted as Vecna.
