Paramount+’s Tulsa King is one of the best shows on the streaming Platform. The Taylor Sheridan show premiered in 2022 and stars Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone as Dwight Manfredi. The show follows the story of Stallon’s character getting out of prison and creating his own crime family in Tulsa.

While the show is popular for blending Western elements with mobster drama, it is also among the fan-favorite shows due to the performance of the ensemble cast, especially Stallone’s. In a new interview with ScreenRant, the action star revealed that he only wanted to do two seasons of Tusa King. However, due to the show doing exceptionally well, he has pushed his retirement back. He shared:

"I only wanted to do two seasons maximum and I was done for real."

Furthermore, with Terence Winters returning as EP and Head Writer for Season 4, Stallone shared that the show will get more thrilling.

More on this in our story.

Tulsa King: Sylvester Stallone wanted to do only two seasons of the show

Tulsa King Season 3 will premiere on September 21, 2025, and will bring numerous challenges for the Manfredi Crime family. At the end of Season 2, while Dwight thinks he has solved all of his existing problems, he is kidnapped by masked men from Margaret’s home. The upcoming season will pick up from here and reveal more about the kidnappers and why they kidnapped the Mafia boss of the Manfredi family.

Shockingly, Stallone shared that Season 2 of Tulsa King was supposed to be his last season. However, the success of the show as one of Paramount+’s superhit shows made him delay his retirement. In the ScreenRant interview, Stallone humorously spoke about how one should not listen to an actor. He stated that if the actor is doing a hit show, he will never back out of it. He quipped:

"The moral of that story is never listen to an actor. If he has a hit going, he is not walking away, it’s too rare. I’d say goodbye. This is it. Take a polaroid, right, because I’m not coming back. I thought, how do you follow up with it? And then when it came out, [I was like], you can’t quit on this thing."

He continued:

"You love sequels anyway, so just go for it. Forget your age and just keep pumping away. And now the next season coming up, this was really good. I think it’s going to be even better."

While the show’s success kept the 79-year-old actor going and delaying his retirement plans, he also shared that the return of Terence Winter for Season 4 is also a sign of the show being even better in the future.

As per Deadline, Winter, who stepped down from being the showrunner of the show after season 1, will return full-time instead of just a consultant for Season 4. Since Dave Erickson has stepped down from his showrunner duties, EP and Head writer Winter will be in the spotlight to helm Season 4 of Tulsa King.

Other than Sylvester Stallone, the crime drama also stars Andrea Savage, Jay Will, Domenick Lombardozzi, Martin Starr, and Max Casella, among numerous others.
