Amazon Prime's thriller series The Better Sister, starring Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks, follows the lives of two estranged sisters, Chloe and Nick. Their lives turn complicated when a man called Adam is murdered under mysterious circumstances. Turns out, Adam is Chloe's present husband and Nick's ex. As the investigation proceeds, secrets crawl out, keeping viewers hooked till the end. In the finale, we do get an answer about Adam's mysterious killer, but Jake's death remains a mystery.Jake Rodriguez (Gabriel Sloyer) was an attorney at Adam's law firm and also his business partner. He had a secret affair with Chloe (Adam's wife). We learn that Adam wasn't a good husband and was abusive to Chloe. Thus, when she found comfort and solace in Jake, she didn't step down. But Jake's involvement in trying to expose the Gentry Group run by Bill Braddock pushed him into dangerous waters.Additionally, the FBI pressured him to find evidence against the Gentry group and its shady dealings related to human trafficking. In the court, things turned complicated, too. During the session, Chloe's confession about Adam's abuse backfired. The court suspected Jake of killing Adam, but in the end, it was resolved. But Jake was already in deep trouble with the Gentry Group on one side and the FBI on the other, and when his dead body washed up on the shore, it was no shocker. But the question remains: Who killed Jake? In a candid chat with The Hollywood Reporter, when asked about whether Bill or Gentry killed Jake, showrunner Olivia Milch, without giving any definite details, said,"I think we very much wanted to deliver a very satisfactory ending for the first season and have it feel like you know what happened, like the mystery is solved. But I think that obviously the truth, particularly around these ladies in this family, is that things happen. Jake, however, did not reveal any details about the meeting quoting attorney-client privilege. Chloe asks for help as she tells him to confess how the Gentry Group was overpowering both him and Adam. Jake confesses that the Gentry Group is dangerous and would do anything to protect themselves, but he also believes that they did not kill Adam (well, he was right). He tells her,"Threats to the Gentry Group are much bigger than Adam. I'm sorry. I wish that I could."They share a quiet moment, and then a passionate kiss. Then came the tense court sessions where Chloe confessed that Adam was abusive, and the blame shifted toward Jake since he was having an affair with Chloe. Chloe confessed that Jake gave him a spare cell to contact when in need. The lawyer grilled Jake with questions, but he refused to answer. The jury finally found Nicky's son, Ethan, not guilty of Adam's murder. In the finale of The Better Sister, we finally found out that it was Nicky who killed Adam to save her sister Chloe and Ethan. The sister successfully pins the blame on Bill Braddock, the leader of the Gentry Group.However, the finale episode ends with a cliffhanger. When the sisters are having a quiet time by the beach, smoking cigarettes. Jake's body washed up on the shore, leaving viewers with several queries. The first being who killed him? As of now, we do not have any answers for that, and it remains a mystery. The Better Sister is yet to be renewed for a second season.
