Project Odessa is mentioned for the first time in The Boys Season 4, Episode 4 "Wisdom of the Ages". As of now, we don't know much about this project, but we will learn more about it in Gen V Season 2, as the trailer mentions its name. However, one thing is clear: the project will play a major role in Gen V Season 2 and the fifth season of the main series, which is also its last.

Ever since it was seen right in the opening scene of the fourth episode of season 4, many believe that Project Odessa might be a Vought initiative to create a Homelander 2.0. However, for now, we have to wait for a month to learn more about it when the second season of The Boys spin-off Gen V begins streaming on Prime Video.

Explaining The Boys' Project Odessa:

Theories are circulating on the internet that Project Odessa is a Vought initiative to replace Homelander. One thing has been clear since the very first episode of season 1. While Homelander is evil, he is just a cog in the machine. Before Homelander, there was his father, Soldier Boy, who was also just as abusive to his Payback teammates, including Black Noir.

When we look at The Seven (Homelander's team) and Payback (Soldier Boy's team), the only thing that changes is the name of the team, and nothing else. While every other hero in Vought's hero team, either Payback or The Seven, has a civilian past before joining either of the superhero teams, it is their respective leaders who have had a troubled past.

Soldier Boy had a neglectful father, while Homelander was raised in a lab by Vought scientists who conducted cruel experiments on him. Furthermore, they even raised him in a way that the need to be loved is baked into him. Thus, Project Odessa is a repetition of the same thing that that pulled off in the past, as revealed in The Boys Season 3 flashbacks when Soldier Boy was replaced with his son Homelander.

What else is there in The Boys Universe?

As mentioned earlier, the spin-off series, Gen V Season 2, is releasing in a month. Similar to what Gen V Season 1 did in 2023, the second season, which begins streaming this year, will set the stage for The Boys Season 5. The synopsis for Gen V Season 2 reads:

"In Season Two, school is back in session. As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander's iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new Dean preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever. Cate and Sam are celebrated heroes, while Marie, Jordan, and Emma reluctantly return to college, burdened by months of trauma and loss. But parties and classes are hard to care about with war brewing between Humans and Supes, both on and off campus. The gang learns of a secret program that goes back to the founding of Godolkin University that may have larger implications than they realize. And, somehow, Marie is a part of it."
