Everybody Loves Raymond is one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time. It centres around an Italian family that lives in Long Island, and primarily follows the lives of Raymond Barone and his family, including his wife, kids, parents, and older brother. The show ran for nine seasons, keeping fans entertained from 1996 to its last episode, which aired in 2005.
Now, with so many classic shows getting reboots, fans are hopeful to see a reboot for the beloved sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond. However, contrary to the public desire, many of the leading stars of the show have declined the idea of a reboot, and their reason is quite an emotional one.
The Everybody Loves Raymond cast has expressed no interest in a reboot for the show, and here's why
Cast members of the popular sitcom were asked at various points in time about whether they would be interested if there were a reboot of Everybody Loves Raymond. However, three of the leading members, Brad Garrett (who played the role of Robert Barone), Ray Romano (who played the protagonist character of Raymond Barone), and Patricia Heaton (who played the role of Raymond's wife, Debra Barone) were consolidated in their view that they would rather not have a reboot of the show.
Speaking about the reason behind this decision, all three unanimously mentioned that it was simply out of respect for those cast members who had passed away, namely Peter Boyle, Doris Roberts, and Sawyer Sweeten. While Boyle and Roberts played the role of Raymond's parents, Sweeten played the role of his youngest daughter.
Ray Romano explained,
"The obvious is: Peter [Boyle] and Doris [Roberts] and one of the kids [Sawyer Sweeten]. They’re no longer with us. We're all heartbroken. They're a big part of the show, the dynamic…Without them, I don't know what the dynamic is. We love the show too much, we respect it too much to even try to do it."
Patricia Heaton voiced a similar opinion, saying,
"To try to do it again without the cast members that we’ve lost would be a disservice to the show."
While Roberts passed away in 2016 at the age of 90, Boyle died due to multiple myeloma and heart disease in 2006 at 71. Sweeton, however, succumbed to suicide at the age of 19 in 2015.
Although the leading actors of Everybody Loves Raymond have declined the idea of a reboot, fans can always watch the nine seasons of the original show on Paramount Plus.
