The Chi season 7 episode 6 opens with a city-wide power outage during the summer, which develops tension across the locality. While some people like Alicia are surviving through generators, most families are forced to adapt to the condition.

Damien, Emmett’s half-brother, reaches out asking for money, claiming it’s to clear a debt. Darnell, Emmett's father, warns him of his gambling problems and suggests that he should seek some rehabilitation. Contrastingly, Emmett still offers him a large amount of money, and Damien ends up joining a high-stakes underground card game. The worst nightmare occurs when Damien loses everything, including the loan he got from Emmett.

Secondly, Zeke’s megachurch holds a community cookout to bring joy and warmth during the blackout. His team includes Charles and Papa. Charles suggests a church dating or matchmaking event, which is fun and less spiritual. But a scandal occurs when Sarah Zeke's white mistress walks in uninvited at the event. She is clearly evident among the crowd, as she doesn't belong racially or socially in a Black congregation. Her presence raises a serious alarm for both Zeke and Charles. Zeke's fear comes to the surface with her presence in public and deepens the tension between him and Charles. While Sarah's action suggests that she is no more willing to stay hidden.
