The Chi is a Showtime original drama created by Lena Waithe that follows the lives of residents on the South Side of Chicago. The show first premiered in 2018 and has steadily built a loyal audience by focusing on personal struggles, relationships, community politics, and the impact of crime.

It’s not a crime show in the traditional sense, it’s more of a character-driven look at survival, family, and identity in a city that’s often misrepresented. The Chi has gone through multiple shifts, especially after the departure of lead actor Jason Mitchell after The Chi Season 2, but it continued to expand its universe with a rotating ensemble of returning favorites and new faces.

Central characters like Emmett, Kevin, Kiesha, and Douda have evolved across seasons while new players keep the stakes fresh.

By Season 7, the show has covered everything from gang rivalries and police corruption to parenting and mental health. It was renewed for an eighth season in May 2025 and continues to spotlight real issues without losing sight of the people at the heart of it all. Whether it’s relationships breaking down or power changing hands, The Chi makes room for stories that feel grounded and personal, even when chaos surrounds them.

Dante, played by Cory Hardrict, was introduced in Season 3 of The Chi and has made intermittent but memorable appearances across five seasons. First showing up in the episode Gangway, Dante stood out immediately as someone with a certain level of power, money, and influence that existed just outside the show’s main chaos. He’s not tied directly to the street gangs, but he’s far from a clean-cut businessman.

Described during casting as an independent rapper with selective taste in women, marijuana, and producers, Dante exists in a gray space. He’s connected but not loyal to anyone. He funds things when it suits him and disappears when things heat up.

By Season 4, Dante became more involved with Tiffany, played by Hannaha Hall, who was trying to branch out from her relationship with Emmett. Their connection wasn’t just casual, Dante was the man Tiffany turned to when she wanted to feel respected and in control.

He represented a contrast to Emmett, who was still figuring out fatherhood and commitment. In episodes like Cooley High, The Girl From Chicago, and Love Jones, Dante served as a disruptor, someone who wasn’t looking for long-term involvement but had enough appeal and resources to leave an impression.

Cory Hardrict played the character with a straight face and measured tone, rarely showing emotion. That made Dante hard to read. He wasn’t impulsive like Douda or aggressive like Trig.

He was patient and calculated. Even in short scenes, he delivered calm threats, smooth lines, or passive power moves. You never really knew where he stood with anyone. His scenes with Emmett were especially loaded. He didn’t challenge Emmett directly, but his presence forced Emmett to question what kind of man he was becoming.

Dante disappeared for most of Season 5 but returned in the episode I’m Looking for a New Thing. Again, it was tied to Tiffany. Their chemistry still lingered, and while the show didn’t give him a huge arc that season, he served the same purpose, reminding the audience that Tiffany had options and that Emmett was still in competition, whether he wanted to be or not.

Season 6 brought Dante back into the story in a more involved manner. He appeared in Mo’ Douda, Mo’ Problems, One of Them Nights, and the finale Want This Smoke. While his exact position in the hierarchy of Chicago’s underworld was never fully explained, it was clear he had some dealings that went beyond music or romance. He popped up where money and territory were being discussed, and he wasn’t there by accident.

In The Chi Season 7, Dante returned in Safe Harbor and Unfinished Business. His tone had shifted. He wasn’t just a side character anymore. With Douda dead and the power dynamic wide open, Dante seemed poised to either step in or pick a side.

The Chi never outright confirmed his next move, but it gave enough hints that Dante wasn’t going away quietly. He’s still in the mix, and his silence says more than most people’s outbursts.
