Details on the plot of The Gentlemen

The Gentlemen opens with the pivotal moment that defined Eddie: He inherits his father’s estate, Halstead Manor. The estate oozes old-money aristocracy and speaks for its glorious past.

But what Eddie could not see is that beneath its manicured lawns and glimmering allure lies a multi-million-pound drug operation that is built and managed by the Glass family.

Things take a turn when Eddie comes across Susie, the sharp and calculating woman running the empire in her father’s absence. The criminal reality of his estate is unleashed. While Eddie tries to shut the operations down, the pressing presence of the underworld soon troubles his decisions.

One of the key conflicts in The Gentlemen emerges when Eddie feels the pressure from smooth-talking gangsters and corrupt lords in designer suits. These players come sniffing for a cut in Halstead’s fortune, dragging Eddie into deals dirtier than his hunting boots.

Ritchie says in a Netflix preview featurette that this transformation creates the show’s central conflict:

“And that’s where deals are struck with the underworld that will probably come back to haunt him.”
