The Gilded Age Season 3 came to an end with 8 episodes. The show has already been renewed for another season and after the shocking finale of Season 3, where George Russell’s Morgan Spector survived an almost fatal gunshot wound, viewers are now naturally waiting with eager anticipation to see where the story goes next.

The shocking turn of events at the end of The Gilded Age Season 3 sets up the base for the next season’s storyline and talking about the same, Spector said in an interview with Deadline,

“I think the story of George’s bounce back from the assassination attempt would be the story, at least for me, of Season 4.”

He further added,

“I would love to see what happens, but yeah, I think there were moments when these guys decided that they were gonna maybe start treating their workers a little better, or maybe start investing more in philanthropy or something like that. I’d be curious to see.”

While George was shown to come back the very next day, which did not make Bertha very happy, he did assure her that he was fine and wanted to help her, as he was hosting Mrs. Astor’s Newport Ball. This further highlighted the conflict that the couple is going through, which is bound to be intensified in the next season.

Morgan Spector has talked about his character’s development in The Gilded Age Season 4

Talking about how the gunshot wound that George survived in Season 3 will definitely be affecting his character, Spector said in the same Deadline interview,

“I think what’s happening for George is a crisis of conflict between his actual life, the choices he makes, and his moral code. I think that’s what’s really at issue.”

He also added,

“I think he can’t forgive himself for failing to protect Gladys from this marriage, and I think he has to figure out how to forgive himself and go back to being the man he was, or how to change and become somebody else. And I would love to find out whether we get to see him do that.”

His words show that the decision of getting Gladys married to the Duke of Buckingham will also be another important plot point in the next season. Since George is definitely having second thoughts about this union, it will further make his relations with Bertha tense, as she is absolutely determined to get Gladys and the Duke together.

It would be interesting to see how The Gilded Age Season 4 deals with George and Bertha as a couple who share the same kind of ambition about their lives but are now having conflicting thoughts about some fundamental aspects of the life they have built together.

The Gilded Age can be streamed on HBO Max.
