The Great British Bake Off Season 16 Episode 5 was released on September 30, 2025. The latest episode came under the Chocolate week and focused on various desserts with chocolate as its base.
For the Technical challenge, bakers were instructed to prepare a white chocolate tart. For that, they should also prepare a "buttery short crust pastry" as the base and, it should be topped with a "silky smooth" white chocolate ganache.
Bakers chose their own flavors to go with the white chocolate from the given pantry ingredients. As usual, the Technical challenge was judged blindly by the judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.
After tasting all the tarts, the judges ranked them from worst to best. Lesley's white chocolate tart received first place and praise from the judges.
The Great British Bake Off Season 16: Chocolate Week's Technical challenge featuring white chocolate tarts
The latest episode of The Great British Bake Off Season 16 featured a Technical challenge for the Chocolate week. For that, the hosts asked the judges to leave the tent before sharing the instructions with the bakers. It was because the Technical challenges are judged blindly.
"Make a delicious white chocolate tart. Your tart should feature a buttery short crust pastry and a silky smooth white chocolate ganache. But that's not all. Instead of a recipe the judges would like you to use artistic license," shared the hosts.
They uncovered the gingham and revealed various pantry items. Bakers were given five minutes to choose the ingredients of their choice for the challenge. The ingredients were also supposed to complement the white chocolate they were supposed to use during the Technical challenge.
With the clock set at two and a half hour mark, the bakers got started with their preparations. Away from the bakers, The Great British Bake Off judges discussed what they were expecting as the results.
"What we've asked them for is a short crust base with a set white chocolate ganache topped with whatever they want to go with the silky smooth sweetness from the white chocolate," discussed the judges.
On the other hand, the bakers got started with the base of their bakes. After kneading and rolling, they put it to bake and started working on their ganache. A total of eight remaining bakers participated in the challenge. This included. Iain, Lelsey, Aaron, Tom, Toby, Nadia, Jasmine, and Nataliia.
After the time was over, judges arrived and tasted the tarts during the blind tasting. Judges felt that Lesley's Key Lime Pie was delicious. However, the base was not yet fully set. While tasting The Great British Bake Off star Nataliia's mousse, judges noted that it had "everything" in there.
"We've never done anything like this before. But I think you've all did a good job and it's fascinating to see your interpretation of flavors," said the judges.
After tasting all the tarts, the judges ranked them from least to most successful in terms of flavors, texture, taste, and more.
- Eighth Place: Nadia,
- Seventh Place: Iain,
- Sixth Place: Nataliia,
- Fifth Place: Toby,
- Fourth Place: Tom,
- Third Place: Aaron,
- Second Place: Jasmine,
- First Place: Lesley (The best).
Lesley's tart received first place.
"In first place, we have this one. You highlighted the white chocolate which is what it was all about. A bit longer that would have set well done," noted the judges.
After receiving high praises from the judges, Lelsey confessed to the cameras that she "really needed" that "little bit of boost."
Netflix now streams The Great British Bake Off Season 16 Episode 5.
