BBC One's latest suspense crime drama The Guest is a four-part series which released on September 1.
Starring Gabrielle Creevy and Eve Myles in lead roles, the series follows the complicated relationship between Ria Powell, a newly hired cleaner and her employer, Fran Sharp, a successful entrepreneur.
As the series progresses, Fran's influence on Ria becomes apparent, as the former repeatedly advises her to seize the day and break ties with her toxic boyfriend, who was also a financial liability to her.
In The Guest finale, Ria finally learned that Fran and her husband Simon's furniture business was actually a ruse for their smuggling business. Through Mike's sister, Ria learned that Fran and Simon had possibly killed her predecessor Anna, who held key information about the Sharp's empire and the whereabouts of their black money. What happened to Ria in the finale, and what more secrets does Fran hold behind her sophisticated demeanour?
Here is the complete The Guest ending explained.
The Guest ending explained: Fran frames Ria for Simon's murder
Fran was having an affair with Richard, a man who helped her and Simon in their dr*g smuggling empire by arranging deals with pharmaceutical manufacturers in foreign countries. However, after Fran realized that she had committed a blunder by marrying Simon, who was controlling and often assaulted her, she started the affair.
In The Guest finale, Simon invited Ria to have a celebratory drink with him and his wife, where he made the cleaner uncomfortable. After he visibly assaulted Fran in front of Ria, she finally lost her temper and smashed Simon's head with a hammer. While Simon took his final breaths, Fran spiked Ria's drink and framed her for murder. Ria woke up the following morning and found herself next to Simon's bloodied body. However, she managed to escape from the mansion.
The Guest ending explained: Ria finally learns the truth about the Sharp empire
In The Guest finale, Ria sets out to uncover the truth about her mysterious employer. She came across Anna's diary, her predecessor at Fran's mansion, and discovered a code that led her to a cryptowallet and a pen drive. She finally learned the truth behind the Sharp empire. Fran and Simon needed girls like Ria and Anna to visit Dubai and convert their black money into cryptocurrency. However, after making frequent trips to Dubai, Anna learned the Sharp's money laundering process and began stealing from them.
After Fran and Simon got to know about Anna's deceiving ways, she was secretly killed, likely by Richard, who did the couple's dirty work. While Fran agreed that she never wanted to kill the girls and gave them an opportunity to turn their lives around, Anna made things complicated by stealing from them.

The Guest ending explained: What happened to Fran and Ria in the end?

In The Guest finale, Richard finally learns that Ria had discovered their secret. He plans to kill her by taking her to Fran's secret mansion. However, by this time, Fran had realized his true motives. She had also started to genuinely like and care for Ria, which is why she saved Ria from Richard's clutches and helped her escape. In the series' final moments, while Ria escaped from the mansion, Richard was sent to jail for illegally smuggling dr*gs.
The series ended on an open note for Fran, who was considered missing after her husband's murder. Since Ria now holds the cryptocurrency and all the Sharp wealth, it was suggested that the two women might reconnect after The Guest ending. Fran was surely a complicated woman, who even framed Ria for her husband's murder, but she also had her best interests at heart and saved her from Richard in the end, which might mend their relationship in the near future.
While The Guest Season 2 is not confirmed for now, the open ending hints that this was certainly not the last Ria had heard from Fran. The women clearly shared a volatile relationship, and with Simon and Richard both gone for good now, Fran can easily reconnect with Ria and build a new (and legal) business empire together.
