As The Institute is nearing its end, the dangers and secrets of the mysterious facility and characters are coming to the surface, resulting in several twists in the MGM+ horror series. One of these mysteries was about the ruthless journalist Kate, played by Jordan Alexander.

At the beginning of the supernatural horror series, Kate appears to be a journalist who is skeptical about the workings of the facility. However, she has always been working for the Institute, without anyone finding out, until Episode 6 of The Institute. While her secret was revealed, the series also did not waste time killing the character at the end of Episode 6.

More on this in our story.

Who is Kate in The Institute?

MGM+’s The Institute follows the story of Luke (Joe Freeman), who has escaped the facility where he was being kept and experimented on due to his telekinetic powers. He has been framed by the same people who run the facility as the killer of his parents.

While there are several characters, like Maureen, the kind janitor, who died in Episode 6 after telling Kate about where to meet Luke, and Tim. She was unaware that Kate was a traitor and a trusted ally of Stackhouse.

In The Institute episode 6, Kate was the one who went to meet with Luke at the decided meeting point, unaware of Maureen's death. Luke had no idea he would meet Kate at the point, and she was working with the Institute and would be responsible for sending him to the same place from where he tried to escape so hard.

However, as Luke was not ready to expect Kate in the said location, Kate also did not have any idea that Luke was not coming alone, as Tim accompanied him.

The Institute: How does Kate die?

As depicted in Episode 6 of The Institute, Kate expected Luke to be alone, which would have made it easier for her and Stackhouse to bring him back to the facility. Therefore, Tim’s presence already sabotaged some part of their plan.

However, the most important thing that gave away Kate’s identity was her phone. As it is known, no cellphones work in the dead zone, except for the Institute's people. Therefore, when Kate’s phone rang, Tim and Luke learned that Kate was not there to help them, as she worked for the Institute.

Without wasting any time, Kate then pulled out her gun, but Luke, wth his telekinetic powers, did not let her fire, as he dropped a branch of a tree on her. This gives Tim a chance to catch her up, but due to him exerting too much force on her, Kate hit the concrete surface and fell into the river, killing her instantly.

With that, Luke and Tim then take the flash drive to the police station to let them know about what goes on in the Institute.
