The Last Frontier is Apple TV+'s latest crime thriller series, starring Jason Clarke as Frank Remnick, a US Marshall in the outskirts of Alaska. The show premiered with a double episode on October 10, 2025 and will continue to release weekly episodes on Apple TV+ every Friday.
The Last Frontier kicks off on a plane, where several inmates are bound to an unspecified location. Out of them, one hooded prisoner stands out as he is tied to a chair. Suddenly, the plane is hit by an explosion, which sends the passengers flying mid-flight. While the pilot tries to control the vessel, it crashes into the icy plains of Alaska. The masked prisoner takes this as an opportunity and frees himself. Several fugitives make it out alive and are now on the loose.
Elsewhere, unaware about the danger waiting for his Alaskan town in the The Last Frontier premiere, Frank is sharing his retirement plans with his nurse wife, Sarah. Just when they are about to head to their cabin, Frank is called in to inspect the site and capture all the criminals.
Here is the complete The Last Frontier Episodes 1-2 recap.
The Last Frontier Episodes 1-2 recap: Frank is sent to the crashed site
Frank takes his friends and fellow officers, Donnie and Hutch, to the crash site via a helicopter in The Last Frontier. Unaware of the chaos awaiting them, Frank inspects the crash site and finds an injured US Marshall with a broken pair of handcuffs. While Frank and his friends try to help him, the Marshall warns them by saying 'ambush', which is followed by a deadly attack by the inmates waiting for them. The crash site erupts into chaos, where Donnie is stabbed.
Donnie and the US Marshall Granger are wheeled into the hospital in The Last Frontier. While Donnie is serious, Granger has suffered a serious injury to his eye. Before he is sent in for treatment, Granger tells Frank about the hooded prisoner who seemed more self-assured and dangerous than the other inmates. When Frank presses him for more information, he says he doesn't know anything beyond this and is taken in by Sarah, Frank's nurse wife.
Who is Havlock in The Last Frontier?
While Frank is dealing with the chaos erupting in his small town in The Last Frontier, the CIA springs into motion after learning that Havlock has escaped. Agent Sidney Scofield is sent to Alaska by her boss Bradford to assess the situation. While Sidney is initially hesitant to tell Frank about Havlock, she eventually realizes that she will have to work with the local law enforcement to capture him.
Sidney revealed that Havlock was not always a criminal. He is a former CIA agent who was trained under her. Havlock was sent on an undercover mission in Atwater Protocol to expose the moles and enemies within, but he went rogue and turned against the CIA. Although Sidney keeps this information from Frank, the CIA is eager to capture Havlock because he has access to Archive 6, a file that contains all the targets the CIA has ever dispatched and will dispatch in the future. If Archive 6 is placed in the wrong hands, it can even lead to the dissolution of the CIA.
Elsewhere, Frank learns that his friend Donnie has succumbed to his injuries and died in The Last Frontier premiere. He vows to find out about Havlock and capture him.
Havlock duped Frank in The Last Frontier
Amidst the chaos, Frank and Sidney get a distressed call that a criminal has abducted a lone man on an outpost. All the details point that the said criminal is Havlock, and Frank personally goes to capture him. However, when they reach the site, the criminal dies in the scuffle, but he is not Havlock.
The passenger's manifest informs Frank and Sidney that the man in the criminal uniform in front of them is actually US Marshall Granger and the man Frank rescued and left in the care of his wife was Havlock. However, it is too late for Frank as Havlock has already escaped from the hospital with his wife Sarah.
The Last Frontier premiere ends on a shocking cliffhanger

Havlock makes this mission personal for Frank by taking his wife hostage in The Last Frontier. Additionally, as revealed by his neighbors, the criminal also spent a night at Frank's house and left a pendrive. The drive contains a video from Sarah, tied to a chair, asking her husband to free an inmate from Seat 12A named Henry Dale Sickler. Henry was a money launderer and the backdoor finance guy to criminal organizations, who also escaped during the plane crash. However, Henry denies having any connection with Havlock, which has Frank concoct a plan. He disguises one of his officers as Henry and takes him to the spot meticulously explained by Havlock over the radio.
However, when Frank reaches the drop site, Sidney realises that it was just a ploy to distract them. In reality, Havlock was after the flight deck recorder en route from the crash site. But it's too late for this realization as Havlock had already ambushed the car and stolen the flight deck recorder.
Defeated once again, Frank sees an ice box left by Havlock for him at the exchange site. He opens the box and his expression changes, but the screen is cut to black before we know what was in the box (who doesn't love a cheeky Se7en reference).
