It seems that there’s a leaked set image or video from The Punisher special presentation every week, and as fans, we aren’t complaining. Through leaked set images, we know that Frank is back to his bearded look after the clean-shaven appearance in the Daredevil: Born Again finale. Speaking of the Born Again finale, we know that the Disney+ solo special is set after the former’s post-credit scene.
Now, a new leaked video from the set shows turmoil unfolding in New York. This video symbolizes that the entire city has been put through the wringer ever since Mayor Wilson Fisk banned masks and placed a curfew on the city. Thus, a riot, as seen in the leaked video of The Punisher special, is not that surprising.
The Punisher presentation leaked set video explained
As mentioned before, the set image shows a riot in progress in a portion of New York. There’s chaos in the streets, people are fighting, and even a police car is set on fire. As the riot progresses, we see a hooded and bearded Frank Castle/The Punisher walk toward the camera. The video concludes as soon as The Punisher walks into the frame.
It must be noted that leaked set images had previously hinted at the appearance of a popular Punisher villain, Ma Gnucci. In the comics, Ma Gnucci is the head of the Gnucci Crime Family, who loses her family to Frank. She puts a hit on Frank, and one fine day, she and her men corner Castle inside the zoo. Frank surprises everyone by setting the animals in cages free.
Ma Gnucci has the most horrific fate as polar bears tear her legs and hands apart, but she survives this ordeal. It is not until she puts another bounty on Frank that she is killed by The Punisher, who throws her into the fire that engulfs her mansion.
What do we know about the Disney+ special presentation?
As of now, we don’t know much about the special presentation, as it is still being filmed. But we do know that this project is special for Jon Bernthal because it marks his writing debut. Other than him, we also know that the script for the presentation will be co-written by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who is also directing the project.
In April 2025, Bernthal teased this to Collider's Steve Weintraub at CinemaCon:
“I've said it a million times: Frank is in my bones, is in my heart. I care about him. In discussing what this thing could be and this sort of version of Frank that I really felt that the audience was hungry for, that the military community was hungry for it, the first responder community, the comic book fans, they were really hungry for it. I presented that version to them, and they encouraged me. They encouraged me to keep coming to the table. As we were talking with different writers, the ideas that we were coming up with started to resonate, and I think they saw how much they resonated with me. I got a great group of vets that I work with. One in particular, my friend Nick, he's just been incredible. I hope that it goes alright. I don't like talking about these things because it's a little bit of bark before there's a bite, you know? I'm honored and I'm grateful. It's an incredible group of people that we're assembling."
As of now, The Punisher special doesn't have a release date, but we do know that it will stream in 2026.
