"The legend is back" - Fans react as IT: Welcome to Derry reloads the IT franchise with a gut wrenching trailer

'IT' is not over yet - hold your breath as Pennywise the Clown is coming for another round of hunting (& haunting) and this time, in the town of Derry. To much surprise of the audience, Max just made a new series official in the IT franchise titled IT: Welcome to Derry with Andy & Barbara Muschietti alongside Jason Fuchs at the helm of the project.

So, far HBO has not confirmed a release date for the upcoming supernatural horror spin-off (based on Stephen King's novel). But that has not kept fans from bursting out their feelings on social media - and so far, it looks like a really good response. As the chilling new teaser unfolds with gut-wrenching glimpses, franchise (returning) star Bill Skarsgård graces the final few moments of the clip as the creepy antagonist.

One user, billskarsgardstudio, reacted to the same on Instagram, saying:

"The legend is back… and he never left our minds. Welcome back, Bill!"

Fans can't get enough of Pennywise horror as new It: Welcome to Derry teaser unfolds

A mysterious town, a new family moving in, several missing children (for months) and a monster on the loose - the first teaser of IT: Welcome to Derry has already hinted that something really sinister awaits. One of the opening sequences from the 2 minute long clip sums it all up, as a small (apparently troubled) boy delivers a cold line:

"Anywhere but Derry."

Just moments after the teaser surfaced, fans have flooded the comments section on Instagram and one of the users (as mentioned above) has happily welcomed back Bill Skarsgård for another round of thrill and horror. Another user, officialshvn, added with enthusiasm:

"This is exciting. I saw my pennywise and smiled!"

A second one, ghoulhost, commented:

"I can’t wait for this one.'

It is very evident how the viewers are already excited to see their much-loved (or rather feared) antagonist returning and this time in the form of a whole new series by HBO and WB in association with Double Dream. Derry is a town that holds dark secrets and the upcoming chapter will take us back to 60s Maine - probably, as the latest clip teased us, it will turn back the pages of time "to where IT all began" (an origin story).

A third user on Instagram, helloneecha, expressed her love for the titular anti-hero saying:

"SO glad Bill reprised the role. He's an incredible Pennywise."

Besides these, fans are also quite eager to learn about an exact premiere date. The comments on various social media platforms also clearly indicate that the viewers have been anticipating a prequel spin-off for quite some time. There were first reports about the IT: Welcome to Derry way back in 2022, per Variety.
