Creator Noah Hawley, with Alien: Earth, is bringing back the Alien franchise. The series' storyline takes place two years before the events of the Ridley Scott film, Alien. The sci-fi series will premiere on August 12, 2025, with two episodes releasing on the same day.

The series will focus on Sydney Chandler’s Wendy and a group of soldiers who find themselves investigating extraterrestrial beings after a spaceship called Maginot crashes on Earth. The series is set to remind us of the iconic franchise with its female character, Wendy, who is described as a humanoid who has the consciousness of a human. She is further described by the creator as a blend of Sigourney Weaver’s iconic character, Ellen Ripley, and the child character Newt from the sequel movie, Aliens.

More on this in our story.

Wendy from Alien: Earth is a blend of Ripley and Newt from the Alien franchise

In Alien: Earth, Wendy is supposed to be a hybrid, a first of her type, who still has her human consciousness in her synthetic body. However, she is said to have the consciousness of a child, just like Newt (Carrie Henn) from Aliens, and not an adult.

During an interview with TVLine, the creator of Alien: Earth, Noah Hawley, and star Sydney Chandler shared how the new series has adapted from the heroic female characters from the film franchise. Wendy will be joining the ranks of Ripley and Newt as other important female characters in the franchise, who would not shy away from action in any way. Sydney talked about how Hawley created her character, who lives in the moment, and will remind the viewers of the Sigourney Weaver character from the original films.

She said:

"Noah Hawley was able to write a very, very layered one-foot-in-front-of-the-other character. It’s very present, which I think you feel from Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley. She’s very ‘take it minute by minute,’ and ‘don’t think too far ahead,’ and ‘leave the past behind, here we are now.'"

Other than Weaver’s character, as described by Chandler, Hawley adds that Wendy also has similarities with Newt from Aliens. He stated:

"In some ways, [Newt] informs very much who Wendy is, right? She’s a child in an adult’s body… There’s nobody more human than a child, right? They don’t know how to pretend they’re not scared. They’re bad liars. And they also look at the world and see the things that we have just learned to accept."

Chandler further added that it was refreshing for her to play a female character in Alien: Earth, who was ready for the action sequences and read a script that allows the character to not succumb to the dangers around her, but to stand up and face them.

Hawley shared more about how Sigourney’s Ripley and Chandler’s Wendy are inherently good people. He said:

"Sigourney’s character was not an action hero. She was a space trucker, who was literally bringing a payload back to Earth and rose to the occasion."

He further added:

"As someone who’s made a show called Fargo about the power of decency over evil, I think Wendy’s just inherently a decent person, and she’s going to thrive because of it."
