The cast of Scrubs, ABC's medical comedy-drama series, is reuniting for a reboot.

The show's creator, Bill Lawrence, was also present alongside castmates Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, Judy Reyes, and John C. McGinley. They came together a few months after Deadline officially announced the reboot.

The original show ran for nine seasons from 2001 to 2009 on NBC and ABC. It followed the lives of medical employees at a fictional hospital, dubbed the Sacred Heart, with Braff's J.D. and Faison's Turk being the show's key focus as medical professionals at different parts of their careers. Chalke played Elliot, Reyes played Carla, while McGinley played Perry Cox.

The reboot will reportedly show them dealing with contemporary issues in the medical space, in line with The Pitt's second season. In a July 2025 report, Deadline described some plot details, which read:

"The new series will follow JD Dorian (Braff) and Christopher Turk (Faison), who scrub in together for the first time in a long time- medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart, and some surprises along the way."

Let's look at the other details we know about the Scrubs reboot so far.

Scrubs was created by Bill Lawrence, who has carved a niche for himself in the television comedy space since then. He was also the creative brain behind the recent shows like Ted Lasso, Shrinking, and Bad Monkey.

In October 2024, before the official announcement about the Scrubs reboot, Lawrence spoke about the prospect of a reunion. He also revealed some details about what he would like to explore in the story. At the time, he said,

“I think it’s getting really close to being figured out, and I think in a good way. Big chunks of the creative team behind the camera, and most of it from in front of the camera, are all super invested and excited, so very close.”

He also added,

“We’ve been talking about a lot, and I think the only real reason to do it is a combo. A: people wanting to see what the world of medicine was like for the people they love, which is part of any successful reboot. But B: I think that show always worked because you get to see young people dropped into the world of medicine, knowing young people that go there are super idealistic and are doing it because it’s a calling."
"There’s no cliché ‘rich doctors playing golf’ - that’s not what it is anymore. So I think that, no matter what it is, it would be a giant mistake not to do as a combo of those two things.”

According to Deadline, Lawrence will be an executive producer on this reboot, alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer from his production company, Doozer. Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra, who worked on the original show, will also return as EPs and showrunners.

More details about the entire cast, the plot, and a release date are expected soon.
