The Rainmaker Episode 1: Is Donny Ray's killer revealed? Details explored

The Rainmaker episode 1 was chaotic for Rudy Baylor (Milo Callaghan), who was fired by a prestigious law firm, Tinley Britt, and had to join Bruiser’s unknown law firm in an old Taco restaurant. However, his drive to succeed didn't die with his firing, as he brought his first client, which would make him fight the lawyers of Tinley Britt.

Rudy took Dot Black’s case of her son, Donny Ray’s death. While a killer has not been revealed, Rudy knows there is more to the case as the hospital offered a huge amount for settlement. As Rudy began his investigation, he came across the name of Melvin Pitcher, who had become a suspect for the crime.

While Brusier was not keen on taking the case, Rudy’s determination was one of the reasons why she agreed to take Dot Black’s case and stand against the North City and Tinley Britt.

In The Rainmaker Episode 1, Rudy and Sarah first encountered Dot Black, Donny’s mother, when she approached them to take a case against the North City General Hospital for the death of her son, who was brought in for the flu. She was told that due to her son’s drug addiction, he could not recover from the flu and died, but Dot claimed that her son had been sober since last year.

After getting fired and joining Bruiser’s firm, Rudy convinced and brought Dot as his first client against Tinley Britt, as he knew the hospital had been hiding something. As Rudy and Deck began to look into the case, they noticed that all the nurses who worked on the floor where Donny was admitted didn't work there anymore.

One of the names, Melvin Pitcher, came into their suspicion as Deck remembered him from their visit to the local hospital earlier in the episode, where he tried to convince Melvin to hire him. They later approached Melvin to interrogate him about the case, but were shut down by Melvin’s lawyer.

Although it is not yet revealed if Melvin is responsible for killing Donny, he remains a suspect as he kills a woman at the end of the episode by injecting something into her neck.

Taking on a difficult case and going against a powerful law firm might bring more difficulties in Rudy’s life in The Rainmaker. Donny’s death might have a bigger conspiracy behind it as his mother is being followed and kept an eye upon by someone unknown, and might become a problem for Rudy as well.

While Rudy has a difficult path ahead due to his stance on justice, Sarah gets ahead of him after impressing the North City CEO and getting hired to represent his hospital. The case has also put him and Sarah at odds, as she will be representing North City against Donny’s mother.

Apart from Milo Callaghan, The Rainmaker also stars John Slattery, Madison Iseman, Dan Fogler, Lana Parrilla, and P.J. Byrne, among others.
