Filming for The Rookie Season 8 has already started, with the series scheduled to return in January 2026. The main cast, including Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Jenna Dewan, Richard T. Jones, and others, will be back for Season 8. As for new cast members, no fresh names have been announced yet.
However, characters from the previous season, such as Deric Augustine’s Officer Miles Penn, have been promoted to series regulars, marking a new addition to the core cast.
Premiering back in 2018, the official synopsis of the show, as mentioned by Rotten Tomatoes, reads,
“Starting over isn't easy, especially for small-town guy John Nolan, who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of becoming an LAPD officer. As the force's oldest rookie, he's met with skepticism from some higher-ups who see him as just a walking midlife crisis.”
The synopsis further mentions:
“If he can't keep up with the young cops and the criminals, he'll be risking lives -- including his own -- but if he can use his life experience, determination and sense of humor to give him an edge, he may just become successful in this new chapter of his life. Content expanded.”

Mekia Cox returns as Nyla Harper. Introduced in season 2, she has been a series regular since then. In season 8, she will reportedly be involved in a storyline with international connections. Mekia Cox has appeared on projects like "Once Upon a Time," "Chicago Med," and others.
Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune
Jenna Dewan will continue her role as Bailey Nune. It will be interesting to see her and Nolan’s character dynamic after the duo finally accept that they cannot become parents. Jenna Dewan’s previous projects include Witches of East End, Superman & Lois, American Horror Story, and more.

No new cast members have been announced yet for Season 8, and since filming has already begun, it can mean one of two things: either this is all we get, or they are keeping a new face all hush hush. Only time will tell!
