It's time to return to the mid-Wilshire division of the LAPD in The Rookie Season 8, which will premiere on ABC on January 6. The network's beloved police procedural starring Nathan Fillion in the lead role of John Nolan will finally return with its highly anticipated new season in the coming year.

The Rookie is going International for the first time and will feature a high-stakes mission for John Nolan, Nyla and Bailey as they help FBI agent Matthew Garza track down an arms dealer in Prague, Czech Republic. The upcoming season will also feature the return of Monica Stevens, the corrupt lawyer and Wesley's ex-girlfriend, who vowed revenge on Nolan in the previous season.

Series creator Alexi Hawley will return to his showrunner duties in The Rookie Season 8, with Fillion, Michelle Chapman, Brynn Malone, Moira Kirland, Bill Roe, Jon Steinberg, Mark Gordon and Bill Norcross serving as executive producers.

The Rookie Season 8 release date and streaming details

ABC has finally unveiled its Tuesday night lineup for the coming season. The network will kick-start its Tuesday nights with the fourth-season premiere of Will Trent and the mid-season return of High Potential Season 2. The exciting lineup will be concluded with The Rookie Season 8, which will premiere on ABC on January 6 at 10 p.m. ET.

Like the previous season, the eighth season of The Rookie will have 18 episodes, which will be released weekly on ABC every Tuesday. A day later, fans can also stream the episodes on Hulu, ABC's official streaming partner.

What is the plot for The Rookie Season 8?

The official synopsis for the upcoming season reads as follows:

"John Nolan, once the oldest rookie in the LAPD, now uses his life experience, determination and sense of humor to keep up with rookies 20+ years his junior. John and the team must navigate the intense, unpredictable nature of their jobs and personal challenges, while uplifting the next generation of first responders."

The upcoming season will feature an International mission which will take Nolan, Harper and Bailey to Prague. The LAPD will partner up with the FBI to track down a notorious arms dealer and terrorist targets, while the rest of the Mid-Wilshire team works in the City of Angels. Their high-stakes mission will get even more harrowing with the menacing antagonist Monica's involvement, who shockingly got an immunity deal with the U.S. government in The Rookie Season 7 finale.

While The Rookie Season 8 will not get any new rookies this time, the fan-favorite character Aaron Thorsen will make his much-awaited return in a handful of episodes.

Additionally, Hawley teased that the upcoming season will continue to put your favorite characters in dangerous predicaments in their personal lives. While Tim will navigate the sudden arrival of his mother and his uncertain future with Lucy, the season will also put the characters through a wringer as their 'marriages will be strained.'
