Netflix's The Sandman Season 2 released its Volume 2, which will conclude Dream's tale. Episode 7 picked up directly from the aftermath of the Volume 1 finale, which saw Dream commit the ultimate sin of filicide, after he spilled family blood and killed his son Orpheus.
While this was what his son wanted for a long time, it was the ultimate sin in the eyes of the Kindly Ones, with death as the only retribution.
The Sandman Season 2 Episode 7 mostly saw Dream's efforts in correcting his wrongs and begging the Fates for forgiveness. While he brings many offerings, wine, herbs, and polecat for the Kindly Ones, they remain adamant in their ways. However, Dream gets a glimmer of hope when the Fates mention that his retribution will end if someone petitions it.
But with Lucifer Morningstar, Desire, and even Calliope hellbent on ending Dream, this was not an option, and he surrenders and finally accepts his inevitable fate. After making his peace with his parents and siblings, he sets out on a path to secure a successor for Dreaming.
Here is the complete The Sandman Season 2 Episode 7 recap.
The Sandman Season 2 Episode 7 recap: Dream meets the God of Chaos
After Dream realises that his fate is inevitable and sealed by the Kindly Ones, he pays a visit to Loki in The Sandman Season 2 Episode 7. The episode catches up with the God of Chaos, who is currently in a relationship with Puck. The couple is creating mischief by disguising themselves as Pope and the Cardinal and tricking women into joining the priesthood.
While the pair tries to trick Morpheus, too, he is far above their basic trickery. As Loki and Puck lose their respective disguise, Dream reveals the motive behind his visit, which is payback for when he helped Loki escape his father's prison. As Dream lays out his plan in front of Loki, he warns Morpheus not to trust him too much, as he is the God of Chaos and deceit after all.
The Sandman Season 2 Episode 7 revealed that Morpheus wanted Loki and Puck to safely bring Daniel Hall to Dreaming, as he would succeed Morpheus as the new King of Dreaming, after his death.
The Sandman Season 2 Episode 7 recap: The beginning of the end
The Sandman Season 2 Episode 7 saw Morpheus deciding the fate of Dreaming by ordering Loki and Puck to pluck Daniel Hall from Lyta. To refresh your memories from Season 1, Hippolyta Hall conceived Daniel with her husband's apparition in Dreaming, while Morpheus was gone. While Dream decided to leave Lyta and Hector, he warned her that he would claim her son one day.
And that day finally came as Loki and Puck conspired to kidnap Daniel Hall from the Burgess mansion, which was currently Lyta's home. However, the chaotic duo was not in the mood to help Dream. Instead, they planned to kidnap Daniel and thus use Lyta as a vessel for the Fates to destroy Dream.
While The Sandman Season 2 Episode 7 ensured that Morpheus had a successor for his realm, it was also the beginning of the end for him.
When Lyta went out for dinner at night, Puck sneaked inside her home and kidnapped baby Daniel. While Lyta received an ominous warning about her son's fate, when Mad Hettie mentioned Daniel the Prophet, it was too late when she finally reached home, and her son had already been taken away by Puck.
The final moments of the episode saw Puck reunite with Loki with baby Daniel, setting the stage for Dream's destruction by Lyta and the Fates.
