The Winchester brothers from Supernatural will have a much-awaited reunion in Eric Kripke's upcoming The Boys Season 5.
The creator of CW's breakthrough fantasy thriller series is finally rewarding its loyal fan base by reuniting Dean and Sam Winchester after five years.
Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester), who plays Soldier Boy in The Boys, recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and confirmed that Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) will appear on the show's upcoming Season 5, along with Misha Collins (who played the angel Castiel in Supernatural).
This is certainly not the first time that Kripke has brought his popular show's alumni into The Boys' fold.
Earlier, Supernatural actors Jim Beaver (Bobby Singer), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (John Winchester) and Rob Benedict (Chuck Shurley/God) also all appeared in The Boys.
More on this in our story.
Jensen Ackles teases a Supernatural reunion in The Boys Season 5
While the Supernatural fandom is still hoping for a reboot, Eric Kripke has partially heard all fans' pleas and The Boys Season 5 will feature a Winchester brothers reunion.
The news that Jared Padalecki will join his on-screen brother in The Boys Season 5 broke out in February 2025 and Jensen Ackles has now finally confirmed it with his recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon:
"So, Eric Kripke, who created Supernatural, is also the writer-showrunner of The Boys. So when he likes to work with somebody, he likes to continue working with them. And I was the benefactor of that, obviously. But then he thought, 'Oh, what a great idea. Let's just bring the cast back together."
In The Boys Season 5, Jensen Ackles' Dean Winchester will not only be reunited with his brother Sam but also with Castiel (Misha Collins). Both the show's alumni are ready to make their debut in Kripke's ongoing show in cameos.
While the CW show was the Winchester brothers' world, Ackles and the cast had their concerns about a reunion in a different world, which the actor addressed to host Jimmy Fallon:
"It was funny, because there was a little, like, concern that — you know, we're gonna get Jared and Misha and Jensen together, and it's gonna be a little wacky...There's a lot of history, but it was also a house that we built...So I had to kind of remind them, I was like, 'Hey, guys, this isn't our house, okay?''
But the actor was certainly happy to reunite with the OG cast as he added:
"It was a really good time. I can't wait to be able to say more."
While Ackles confirmed that Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins will appear in The Boys Season 5, he was tight-lipped about their roles.
Jensen Ackles addressed Supernatural's popularity on The Tonight Show
While the CW show had its fifteen-season run, the fans certainly want more. The fandom is ever-increasing with new people discovering the show regularly, which has led to many show-based fan events and conventions.
Talking about the show's popularity even after five years of its conclusion, Ackles noted:
"We do, like, these fan conventions, these fan appearances...And I thought that they would fizzle out, once the show — the show's been off for five years, and they're still growing. We're still getting asked to come to these different cities."
The actor certainly underestimated the show's large fandom, who still passionately follow the show. However, he is grateful for the love the cast is receiving even now.
For a potential reboot in the future, the actor remains hopeful:
"We enjoyed it. We enjoyed each other, we enjoyed the story, the characters. It was hard to hang it up, but I don't know that we ever hang it up in Supernatural."
