Hulu's latest true crime biographical series, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, starring Grace Van Patten, explores the wrongful conviction of Amanda Knox for the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher. Each episode reveals a layer of the rushed investigation and the highly publicized trial that devastated the lives of not only Amanda Knox but also her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito.
Previously, in The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox Episode 5, we saw how Raffaele's statements are twisted, and based on limited evidence, including a similar-looking footprint and DNA found under Meredith's lingerie, he was sentenced to 25 years, while Amanda received a 26-year sentence. Amidst the chaos, Raffaele wants to cling to Amanda, even though the media twists their relationship, and his father urges him to stay away from her. In the end, Amanda decides to end her relationship with Raffaele. The episode also includes a flashback of Raffaele's childhood traumas, which shape him into a sensitive man.
In Episode 6 of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, the focus shifts back to Amanda, where viewers witness both her downfall and her rise. After the sentencing, Amanda falls into depression. But instead of sulking, she chooses to make the best of her time in prison. Gradually, as new evidence emerges, she becomes more confident and hopeful about her future.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox Episode 6 recap: Amanda and Raffaele's appeal trial
After four long years, Amanda finally has a chance to prove her innocence in court. This time, she's confident and determined not to back down. During the trial, the prosecution is overshadowed when two DNA experts demonstrate the mishandling of evidence. They even blame the Italian police for poorly managing the evidence and point out that the small amount of Meredith's DNA on the knife does not meet international standards. The prosecution delivered a very weak closing statement, and most of their claims relied on portraying Amanda as a freak and nothing more.
Amanda delivers her closing statements bravely, speaking for herself and Raffaele. She recounts how Meredith's death shook her, but what affects her most is being in prison for a crime she didn't commit. She calls out the police authorities and their manipulation. At the end of the trial, Amanda requests to be sent back to prison. In prison, Don Saulo gifts her a flying dove, a symbol of freedom and peace. She finally plays the keyboard at Don Saulo's request and remembers the good times she spent in prison.
Even though she was wrongly thrown into this mess that changed her life forever, she did not flinch and bravely spoke for herself in the end. To find out the verdict, watch The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox Episode 7 on September 24, 2025, on Hulu.
Let's roll back to how Amanda Knox spent the four years in prison: fighting depression, loneliness, and finally being able to speak for herself.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox Episode 6 recap: Amanda Knox falls into depression
The episode begins with the aftermath of the court hearing. Amanda breaks down and is almost forced into her cell. She's near the point of losing consciousness, and her helpless screams go unheard. To the authorities, she's a monster, so it's normal for her to break down and cause chaos. But they do not realize that she is innocent and merely a pawn of Italy's broken judicial system.
Amanda slowly slips into depression, and the warden allows her family to visit her only for a few minutes each week. Her only support in prison is Don Saulo, who tries to lift her spirits and even gives her a keyboard, but to no avail. She feels hope again when her father, Curt, visits and tells her about a group of DNA experts from Idaho eager to help her case. She even attempts to take her own life, but stops when she understands it would only make her look more guilty.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox Episode 6 recap: Amanda Knox gathers strength and starts to heal
Her conversation with Don Saulo helps her somewhat, but a real change occurs when the Warden places her with other American prisoners. She gradually begins to observe, interact with, and understand that each prisoner has their own tragedies. This makes her feel less lonely.
She slowly starts to accept her life in prison and gains strength. She makes friends, begins exercising, and tries to lead a normal life (as much as possible in prison). Her confidence grows when someone named Saul reviews her case and appears convinced that Amanda is innocent. Amanda finally finds a glimmer of hope in the darkness. Saul, an expert in interrogation, believes that Amanda's statements have been distorted.
Amanda confidently tells Chris how the police twisted her story to blame her. Still confident, Amanda can now bravely face the Italian police and authorities, and no one can manipulate her anymore. This is how Amanda becomes confident enough to face the jury for the second time.
