The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 may have introduced Rick Grimes' estranged brother, Jeffrey, in its recent episode, and it might impact the story in the show's upcoming chapters.

The spin-off series, which began in September 2023, focused on the storyline of the titular character, Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus. Series regular Melissa McBride joined him as Carol Peletier, who is also considered by fans to be Norman's platonic soulmate. In one of the scenes in its newly released third episode, dubbed El Sacrificio, Carol said,

"Barcelona? I have a friend whose brother lived there, back before."

Carol said this during her conversation with Antonio, a Spanish resident who was helping heal some of her recent injuries. The dialogue may not have meant a great deal in the moment, but fans have a reason to believe that Carol was referring to Jeffrey, Rick's brother, who ends up in Spain during the Wildfire Virus outbreak.

Jeffrey's mention was surprising to fans, who have known him through the comics but have not witnessed him in the series adaptations. CBR suggests that the character was never even mentioned in the show's run, whether the original or the multiple spin-offs. That's why The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 quietly introduces a missing piece of the Grimes family history.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, season 3, may have hinted at Jeffrey's existence in the show's storyline

Since the show's inception, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) has been central to its post-apocalyptic storyline, where he fought zombies while understanding the root of the outbreak. Over its run so far, the show has introduced Rick's wife, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies), and their children, Carl (Chandler Riggs) and Judith (Cailey Fleming).

Hence, it's only in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 when the show may have addressed Jeffrey. While the show fans may not know him, the comic fans might be familiar with a story dubbed The Walking Dead: The Alien. It's one of the few times Jeffrey was mentioned, and so was his close bond with his brother, Rick.

CBR reveals that Jeffrey was fascinated by the idea of travelling to Spain, which is why he ended up there in the first place. However, around that time, the outbreak ravaged many parts of the world, including European nations. So, it cut Jeffrey away from Rick on another continent. At the time, he was not capable of leaving immediately.

When Jeffrey desired to leave, it was guided by a notion that the United States had found a way to curb the outbreak as opposed to Europe, where it had heavily affected the population. That's why he sought help from Claudia, a native, to return to the US by water. Yet, the moment he gets up on a boat, he gets bitten by an infected individual.

The Alien in the story's title is likely in reference to Jeffrey not being native to Spain, where he ended up being. He was killed long before the show's present narrative. However, considering some creative changes in the adaptation, Jeffrey Grimes may appear in the show after the recent episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3.
