The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 Episode 1: A summary of what happened

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 Episode 1, titled "Power Equals Power," was released on Sunday, May 4, 2025, on AMC. The episode kicks starts with the ongoing power restoration work in New York while Ginny, Maggie, and her son go out in the wild for their little adventure. But as the adventurous outing does not go as planned, they return to their settlement, The Bricks. Meanwhile, the New Babylon Federation arrives at the settlement to recruit some soldiers for the upcoming war on Manhattan. Even though Maggie seems least interested, her old ally, Marshal Perlie Armstrong, recommends she join the forces.

Maggie tries to turn down the offer, but eventually agrees with a clause that the Federation cannot recruit anybody else from the Bricks. Thus, Maggie makes the ultimate sacrifice to save the fellow residents. Maggie becomes successful in the assessment, too, by defeating the walkers in the ring, thus finalizing her position in the army. However, her son, Hershel, isn't too excited about the arrangement. He blames his mother, Maggie, for joining the forces. He insists that Maggie wants to reunite with Negan, who is imprisoned in New York City. Hershel practices his knife-throwing skills and blankly stares at the Dama's sketch, hinting towards seeking revenge.

On the other hand, we find Negan in the prison, as he continuously turns down the demands of The Croats and The Dama. They want Negan to unite the lawless survivors of New York City to fight against the New Babylon Federation and keep Manhattan under their control. Even though Negan initially disagrees, he finally agrees when The Dama reveals she knows about his family and their location. He wears the leather jacket, a symbol of his villainous past, and bravely instructs the leaders to join the fight against the Federation.
