Is Negan successful in his task in The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 Episode 5?
The episode begins with The Croat shopping while his men waiting outside the shop are killed by an unknown group. The group then enters a methane plant and cuts the power supply to the Radio City Music Hall. This leaves the Dama quite angry, as it shows quite poorly on the most powerful men in Manhattan. The Dama was sure that she needed to bring Christos into the alliance to make it stronger. Thus, the Dama instructs Negan to do so (he had previously taken Bruegel to their alliance) and finally reunite with his family. Negan has been walking a fine line all season, trying to keep the Croat and the Dama at peace while trying to protect his family. Negan accepts the task, but this time he drops his manipulative ways and chooses honesty.
Things, however, go sideways, as Negan tries to make Christos understand that for their community (consisting of children and women) to survive, they need to choose a side or they'll perish. The Croat interrupts, saying that he found Christos' knife at the plant. The Croat was too naive to understand that the knife might be planted by Bruegel to frame Christos' group. Previously, the viewers saw how Christos was humiliated at the cathedral in The Walking Dead: Dead City, Season 2 premiere episode, after he lost his home to Bruegel.
Soon, everyone in the room gets sick due to the gas leak from the methane tanks that Negan unknowingly bought for donation. This incident leaves several people dead. However, Negan manages to escape, helpless and furious.
Back at The Dama's theatre, Negan tries to defend The Croat, but she won't listen. This leads to a fiery accident, which can alter the power balance significantly. Negan, on the other hand, is now caught in the crossfire of a collapsing empire.
The battle between the Croat and the Dama in The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 Episode 5
The episode's biggest shock comes in the final act when the Croat turns on The Dama after a tense argument over a missing rat — yes, an actual rat The Dama was training to get into a maze. She accuses him of sabotage and finally snaps. Out of anger, the Croat pushes the Dama, and she trips over. During the fight, the candles get knocked over, setting the room on fire. The Dama gets stuck in the flames as she shouts for the Croat, but with his real name, 'Mile' — a sign of their personal history.
Instead of saving the Dama, he walks away. This brutal moment of The Walking Dead: Dead City, Season 2, marks the end of their toxic alliance. Whether the Dama survives or not remains uncertain, but her control over the city seems to be over. Elsewhere we see Negan cleaning his boots, which has some residue of a dead rat. So who killed the Dama's rat? Did Negan try to create a rift between them?
How do Maggie, Hershel, and Perlie escape execution in The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 Episode 5?
When the three return to Central Park after their brief adventure to find Negan and the methane tanks, they find Lucia had captured Roksana for not following the New Babylon Federation's orders. Soon, Lucia captures Maggie and Perlie for lying about killing Negan and being a witness. Maggie soon realizes that Ginny had informed Lucia about Negan. Meanwhile, Lucia tries to manipulate Maggie to lure in Negan and the Croat. Out of rage, Maggie tries to assassinate Lucia, but Ginny saves her. Later, Maggie, Perlie, and Roksana are sentenced to death by Lucia. After Roksana is hanged to death, it is Maggie's turn. However, her execution stops midway as the walkers attack the execution site. Ginny redeems herself by saving Maggie and Hershel. Perlie somehow escapes, but Lucia is served karma in the most iconic way. Roksana, who is now a walker, kills Lucia.
The group finally reunites, but are interrupted by Bruegel. Hershel admits that he lit the smoke to signal the Dama's men of the location of the New Babylon Federation. Maggie seems stunned to hear Hershel talk about the Dama and her influence.
The Walking Dead: Dead City, Season 2, Episode 5 marks a major turning point in this Season. With Lucia dead and the Dama's fate left uncertain, the viewers might witness some major power changes in the upcoming episode. As the season comes to an end, the series is spiralling toward a showdown.
