The Waterfront, consisting of 8 episodes, will be dropping on Netflix on July 19, 2025. All the episodes will drop simultaneously, giving the viewers a chance to binge this drama, which is already being compared to HBO’s hugely acclaimed show Succession.

The official synopsis of The Waterfront, as per Rotten Tomatoes reads,

“Inspired by true events, The Waterfront dives into the flawed Buckley family as their attempts to retain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire drive them to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves afloat.”

Starring the likes of Holt McCallany and Maria Bello in key roles, The Waterfront boasts an ensemble cast which is definitely one of the strong points of the show. Let us now explore the cast of this upcoming Netflix show in detail.

The Waterfront cast and character guide

Holt McCallany as Harlan Buckley

Holt McCallany stars as Harlan Buckley, the main character in The Waterfront. He is portrayed as a stoic and a believer of old school ways of power. He is not loud but his quietness is terrifying. He is naturally a proud character and even when his age starts to affect his health, he does not budge.

Holt McCallany has previously starred in Mindhunter, The Lincoln Lawyer, Fight Club etc.

Jake Weary as Cane Buckley

Jake Weary plays the character of Cane Buckley, Harlan Buckley’s son. Being the son of a man like Harlan, Jake has naturally been scarred throughout his childhood and his desire to prove himself to his father forms a good part of the storyline. Despite trying his best, Cane's self destructive tendencies often get ahead of him, which further complicates this character.

Jake Weary has previously been seen in projects like Animal Kingdom, It Follows etc.

Maria Bello as Belle Buckley

Maria Bello stars as Harlan Buckley’s wife, Belle Buckley. Her character is shown to be the backbone of the Buckley family who holds everything together. From taking care of her husband to attending to her children, Belle has been doing everything over the years till the point she starts questioning the point behind her efforts.

Besides The Waterfront, Maria Bello has also starred in The Coyote Bar, A History of Violence etc.

Melissa Benoist as Bree Buckley

Bree Buckley, portrayed by Melissa Benoist, is more of black sheep of the Buckley family whose life is a mess. While she started off as a financial advisor, she then turned to addiction and the show portrays her as a recovering addict. She comes back to Havenport to reclaim her son and also get back her lost respect. She is a strong woman and despite making some bad decisions in her life she is not afraid to speak up.

Melissa Benoist has previously been seen in Supergirl, Waco, Whiplash etc.

Brady Hepner as Diller Hopkins

Bree Buckley’s son, Diller Hopkins, is played by Brady Hepner. Given the number of years he has been away from his mother, Diller is naturally a teenager who harbors a lot of confusion and anger. He also needs stability like any teenager and while a good relationship with Harlan seems to be providing him with that, it might not be as good and innocent as it seems.

Brady Hepner has also been associated with projects like Chicago Fire, The Black Phone etc.

Danielle Campbell as Peyton Buckley

Peyton Buckley is Cane Buckley’s wife and surviving in the Buckley household has made her understand how to get her way. Played by Danielle Campbell, Peyton is shown as a charming woman who appears all nice but knows how to play her cards right.

Danielle Campbell has previously starred in projects like Tell Me a Story, The Originals etc.

Other cast and characters in The Waterfront

Aside from the already mentioned cast members, the upcoming Netflix show also consists of other characters, including

  • Rafael L. Silva as Shawn Wilson
  • Topher Grace as Grady
  • Humberly González as Jenna Tate

Viewers would need an active subscription to Netflix to enjoy The Waterfront when it releases.
