With a hint of mystery and a broody personality, Greg Hunt in The White Lotus will come across as an unlikely villain at first. The deception works well in his favor. In Season 1 and 2, Greg, portrayed by Jon Gries, is often overshadowed by his theatrical partner Tanya McQuoid (played by Jennifer Coolidge).

But the audience was in for a surprise when Tanya dies at the end of Season 2, and Greg turns up in Season 3 with a new girlfriend. Suddenly, we realize that The White Lotus has given us one of the more underrated wicked villains.

Fans of the hit HBO drama series first meet Greg in Season 1, episode 4 titled ‘Recentering’. Greg comes off as a likable sport fisherman, who is staying at The White Lotus resort in Maui, Hawaii. In a chance encounter, or so we assume, he meets the rich heiress Tanya at the resort and asks her out for dinner. While this could have been her ‘happily ever after’, things do not go well for Tanya as Greg had a more sinister plan in play.

The White Lotus: Who is Greg Hunt in the HBO drama?

In Season 1 of The White Lotus, Greg Hunt first appears in the fourth episode, where he is trying to get into the room of another guest at the resort, Tanya McQuoid. He tells her casually that he thought it was his room and would even go on to ask her out. A vulnerable Tanya, who was mourning her mother’s death, will end up finding solace in him.

Greg would share that he has a terminal illness and Tanya, who by this point is so drawn to him, decides to help him. Tanya was to going to financially help the spa manager Belinda Lindsey (played by Natasha Rothwell) with a potential wellness business, but will withdraw the offer to spend more time with Greg instead.

When we later meet the couple in Season 2, they are married and enjoying a vacation in The White Lotus resort in Sicily. Greg is also somehow cured of his illness. He is not as pleased to be around Tanya, who has also brought along her assistant Portia (played by Haley Lu Richardson). To keep him happy, Tanya will even ask Portia to stay out of sight. It also doesn’t help that Tanya wants Greg to sign a prenup.

Tanya would often find Greg taking calls secretly, which makes her suspicious. However, their couple’s retreat is cut short when out-of-the-blue, Greg decides to go back to the US for work. Tanya is taken aback by his sudden departure and even questions the state of her marriage. She will get acquainted with Quentin (played by Tom Hollander), a wealthy British man living in Sicily. While she notices a picture of Quentin with a man who looks like a young Greg, she brushes it off without delving into it.

But as twists go, she learns from Portia that something bad is about to happen. Tanya realizes that Quentin is working with Greg, and they are looking to kill her to get her money. She takes things into her own hands. But as luck would have it, Tanya succumbs to her death in an accident while trying to escape. This essentially means that Greg got Tanya’s inheritance.

While we assume Greg is mourning his wife, surrounded by the millions of dollars, he turns up in The White Lotus Season 3 in Thailand with a young girlfriend, Chloe (played by Charlotte Le Bon). And he goes by Gary now. He is living in a huge mansion near the resort. In one of the scenes, Chloe is also seen discussing Greg’s claims about his ex-wife’s deteriorating mental health that led her to walk into the ocean.

During a dinner he will see Belinda, who also instantly recognizes him. When she realizes that Tanya is no longer around, she starts looking into her death and is highly suspicious of Greg/Gary.

Greg will offer Belinda $100,000 towards her business, which as per him is what Tanya would have wanted. But we know, it is just hush money.

Belinda’s son Zion (played by Nicholas Duvernay) wants to take advantage of the situation. He will ask Greg for $ 5 million instead. Even though Greg refuses at first, he does transfer the money, hopeful that his past will remain there forever. In the parting shot, we find Greg living the life of luxury, with his young girlfriend. Whether we will see more of Greg/Gary in The White Lotus again, remains to be seen.
