The latest sports K-drama, The Winning Try, is scheduled to release on July 23, 2025, and will premiere new episodes every Friday and Saturday on SBS. In addition, it will also be available to stream on Netflix for a global audience.
Per Netflix, the synopsis of The Winning Try reads as:
"After his career fell apart, a disgraced rugby star finds purpose coaching his old school's team — driving them and himself toward growth and redemption."
As suggested by the synopsis, The Winning Try will narrate the story of a former rugby player, Joo Ga-ram, played by Yoon Kye-sang, who returns to his former high school to coach the rugby team. The path to victory for the team and the coach seems difficult as Ga-ram had lost all his fame due to a drug scandal, and had to retire from the game. Worse, the team is at the bottom of the rugby league and is considered to be weak.
The Korean series will have 12 episodes, which will be released bi-weekly from this Friday.

A story of redemption, The Winning Try will depict how Ga-ram earns back the respect he lost due to a doping scandal. In the trailer, he is seen saying that he is the best rugby player in the country, which suggests that he came back to prove something that he couldn’t due to the sudden retirement.
Aside from coming back to train a rugby team in his former school, Ga-ram also encounters his former love, Bae Yi-ji, played by Im Se-mi, whom he used to date but had broken up with. Yi-ji is the shooting coach at the same school. Additionally, the show will also focus on the story of an envious student, Yoon Seong-joon, played by Kim Yo-han, who starts off feeling an inferiority complex due to his seeming lack of talent but wants to change the circumstances through hard work, and make the rugby team.
The Winning Try aims to be to be one hell of a ride with the chaotic journey of a worst rugby team that is billed as the worst, and show how the team, with their new coach, attempts to become the best. The show promises some heartwarming and inspiring moments.
Other than Yoon Kye-sang, Lim Se-mi, and Kim Yo-han, the Korean sports drama also stars Cho Han-gyeol, Kil Hae-yeon (who plays the role of the principal of the high school), Jang Hyuk-jin, and Kim Min-sang, among others.
