Seanchaí may have been one of the highlights of The Witcher: Blood Origin, but she may not return to the The Witcher-verse, according to showrunner Lauren Hissrich.

Seanchaí first appeared in the spin-off series, subtitled Blood Origin, with Oscar-nominated star of Good Will Hunting, Minnie Driver, playing the part. She was first introduced as the time-travelling and shapeshifting storyteller, and one of the enigmatic figures in the world of this fantasy adventure adaptation from Netflix.

Despite a positive reception for Driver's rendition and the character's presence in the show's overarching story, she won't be a part of the upcoming fourth season of The Witcher. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich recently addressed this topic during her cover story discussion with Entertainment Tonight.

Here's what she said,

"Minnie Driver will not return, sadly. I would love Minnie Driver to return, but, no, she does not factor into the story in the future."

In 2022, Minnie Driver entered this universe as Seanchaí. While the future of her character is uncertain, she was more than pleased to play the part. She spoke about her character, her shapeshifting abilities, and what fascinated her about the show's fantastical realm. Here's what she told EW in December 2024:

"The shapeshifting aspect is really fantastic. It gives so much power to the character because you know that they can really appear in any form that they choose. But also, I love the fact that this is an ancient storyteller. That's all actors really are. We're playing dress-up while storytelling, and there's something very satisfying about how familiar that is."

She also mentioned her interest in a similar fantasy project, saying,

"I love fantasy, and I love The Witcher, so it was a very cool call to get. Season 1, for me, really was like perfect television. I then got incredibly busy, and I've only sporadically watched since, but I was devoted for that first season."

In January 2023, she also spoke about Seanchaí with DigitalSpy.

"The keeper of the story is somebody whose superpower is stories. It's fascinating and funny and great as an idea."

She added,

"And then when you start understanding how that really can impact, and how our stories are what make us, and the stories we choose to tell ourselves, or that we tell about our culture and where we’re from – it’s foundationally important."

At the time, the actress addressed the possibility of Seanchaí's return, saying,

"I think the writers at Netflix are very smart. Like, why not create a character who is functional within the broader universe that you could drop down to further story in a really interesting and exciting way?"

She added,

"I would love to do that, actually. I would need the braids to hide my ears so I don't have to sit and get my [elf] ears on for two-and-a-half hours every day."

The Witcher Season 4 is slated to debut on October 30, 2025.
