9-1-1: Nashville is one of the most anticipated shows of the year.
The 9-1-1 spin-off is going to mix music with procedural drama elements, providing the viewers with a unique experience.
The show revolves around the father-son firefighter duo of Captain Don Hart, played by Chris O'Donnell, and Ryan Hart, played by Michael Provost. Stirring up trouble in their lives will be Blue Bennings, who has been described as a bad-boy firefighter, and his mother, Dixie Bennings, played by acclaimed country singer LeAnn Rimes.
Rimes has now talked about what to expect from her character in 9-1-1: Nashville. In an interview with USA Today, the singer revealed that Dixie has had a history with Don, which would cause issues between him and his wife, Blythe Hart. Rimes said:
“It will get heated; there's definitely drama between them.”
LeAnn Rimes talks about her character Dixie Bennings in 9-1-1: Nashville
Further talking about her character, LeAnn Rimes stated that she will introduce a musical element in 9-1-1: Nashville. However, just like her real life, Dixie’s talent is not limited to country music:
“You'll see Dixie struggling around music; that's part of the storyline. But she's not all country music. Dixie is similar to me in that she can sing it all.”
Rimes added that Dixie’s relationship with her son Blue will be a major highlight of the show:
“One thing you need to know about Dixie is that she very much loves her son. She's obsessed with and adores him. But she is not above manipulating that love for all it's worth.”
The actress then revealed that Dixie is being portrayed as a former smoker. As a non-smoker herself, it was a challenge for her to play the character, and she had to extensively practice holding unlit cigarettes before auditioning for 9-1-1: Nashville:
“I have never picked up a cigarette in my life," Rimes says. "But I went and bought a pack of cigarettes. And I sit around the house with an unlit cigarette making it look real. Dixie has her vices. If it's not a cigarette in her hand, it's a glass of wine.”
Set in the titular city, the show is going to chronicle the lives and struggles of firefighters, paramedics, and officers as they face dangerous situations on their missions to save civilians’ lives. The series marks the second spin-off of 9-1-1 after 9-1-1: Lone Star, which concluded its five-season run this year.
The show has been created by Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and Rashad Raisani. Minear talked about why the team chose Nashville as the location for the series in an interview and revealed that the city’s country music industry, Southern culture, and production incentives were the reasons behind the decision.
9-1-1: Nashville will premiere on ABC on October 9, 2025. Apart from LeAnn Rimes as Dixie Bennings, it will star Chris O'Donnell as Captain Don Hart, Michael Provost as Ryan Hart, Jessica Capshaw as Blythe Hart, Hunter McVey as Blue Bennings, Hailey Kilgore as Taylor Thompson, Juani Feliz as Roxie Alba, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley as Cammie Raleigh.
