"They were blown away": Celebrity IOU star Drew recalls building a shotgun-style home in New Orleans

Celebrity IOU stars Drew and Jonathan Scott attended an interview with realtor.com on December 28, 2025. They opened up about exciting incidents, including the most shocking property they came across, building a shotgun-style home, and more.

One of the incidents that Drew couldn't forget was helping a woman in New Orleans. They helped her by combining two shotgun-style houses, and their reaction was memorable.

Celebrity IOU star Drew recalled that with their design, the homeowners could easily go through various parts of the house, without stepping into other bedrooms:

"So we took these two attached shotgun-styles, and we split them front and back instead. So both units were wider, but it was more functional because you didn't have to go through bedrooms to bathrooms. They were blown away. We fully furnished it. I'll never forget the reaction. She said we changed their lives. So, yeah, it was very meaningful."

In their latest interview, Drew and Jonathan Scott talked about various remarkable projects. One of the projects left an unmatched impression on Property Brothers. Drew also noted that he "literally" thinks about this renovation at least once a week. It was from the time when they were featured on, Brothers Take New Orleans.

There was a woman who went through a disastrous hurricane, and her house was destroyed:

"She hired a contractor who took the money, tore the house apart, and disappeared with all her money."

They recalled that the woman had no money and no house to live in. At the time, she lived in a rental unit with a mattress on the floor for years.

Drew and Jonathan met her through a local charity. They helped her build a home after working with locals. The two worked on a shotgun style home.

"The shotgun-style homes are long and narrow. So, basically, your living room leads to your kitchen, leads to your bedroom, leads to the other bedroom, leads to the bathroom. So imagine having to go to the bathroom in the night, you have to go through someone else's bedroom. There's no hallway," shared Drew.

To overcome that, they attached to shotgun-styles and split them from the back and front. As a result, they had two wider units with more functionalities. Additionally, the residents didn't have to pass through bedrooms whenever they wanted to use the bathrooms.

Seeing such a creative solution, everyone was surprised. The Property Brothers furnished it and built the house. Drew and Scott recalled that they would never forget the reaction after they had renovated the house. The home-owner noted that they changed their lives. Celebrity IOU stars felt that it was very meaningful.
