This hero might become the new mayor of New York after Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

There are numerous speculations about Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which is currently filming in New York. We already know that Krysten Ritter is returning as the brash and alcoholic Private Investigator (PI) Jessica Jones in this season of Born Again. Her return was officially confirmed in the Upfront event in May 2025. With her return confirmed, fans have been theorizing that Luke Cage and Iron Fist might return, too.

However, it should be noted that Danny Rand/Iron Fist and Luke Cage have not been confirmed for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 yet. But Mike Colter, the actor who played Luke Cage/Power Man in the Netflix show, has been dropping small hints on his Instagram Stories, much like Ritter did before her return was officially confirmed.

If Colter's return were to be officially confirmed, it would add fuel to the speculations that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 might be adapting 2021's six-issue event, Devil's Reign, in which Fisk's oppressive regime is eventually brought down and Luke Cage eventually wins the mayoral election.

Marvel's Devil's Reign, the probable inspiration for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, explained:

Much like Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Devil's Reign sees the Kingpin win the mayoral election. Upon doing so, he has enacted anti-vigilante laws, causing all the heroes of the Marvel Universe, including the Fantastic Four, to band together to fight back. Once the good guys manage to bring Fisk down, it is Luke Cage who wins over the people of New York.

"The story that’s been building for years is here! Wilson Fisk went from Kingpin to mayor of the biggest city in America and is going to bring his full criminal and political power to bear on the super heroes who call NYC home. Now, the season 1 finale concluded with Fisk winning and imprisoning his opponents, except for Matt and Karen. Daredevil and Karen form a resistance in the closing minutes of the finale at Josie's Bar, and it includes common citizens, but not Matt's fellow Defenders, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand. But now Jessica Jones is returning, Luke and Danny might also join Matt's army in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.

As of now, Luke has been the owner of Harlem's Paradise for at least a decade since Luke Cage Season 2. We also saw the advertisement for the club in Times Square in Born Again Season 1's first episode. This is why many believe that the stage is being set for Luke to take over as mayor, probably in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.

What do we know about Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 for now?

As of now, plot details of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 are under wraps because the series is still under filming. However, we do know that one of Matt's fellow Defenders is appearing in the upcoming season. Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones was confirmed to return in May 2025. However, we don't know her role in the upcoming season for now.
