The Boys Season 5 is expected to begin streaming on Prime Video sometime in 2026. As of now, not much is known about the fifth season of the acclaimed and popular superhero satire series, which is also its last season. For now, we also don't know the episode count for the fifth season. However, fans got a peek into the season at Comic-Con this July.
The footage confirms what we suspected ever since the season 4 finale, that Homelander now serves as the real leader of the United States. This has me suspect that The Boys Season 5 has two different ways that could reach the same bittersweet or even depressing conclusion, which is that the system that birthed Homelander is worse than the corrupt leader of The Seven.
The Boys Season 5 should not have a happy ending:
While audiences expect happy endings for movies and shows, The Boys is a different case altogether. While it is true that Hoelander is the main villain of the series, it should be noted that the system that gave him power is the bigger antagonist that not a lot of people acknowledge. This is why some fans have come up with two different scenarios.
The first scenario states that the heroes manage to bring down Homelander and kill him, but still lose. That's because they realize that Homelander is an important but just a small piece of the bigger problem. But the second theory is far worse, and it is linked to Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy. Introduced in season 3, Soldier Boy can depower a supe.
Now, the second scenario posits that the team manages to somehow depower Homelander using Soldier Boy. But despite losing his power, John (Homelander's civilian identity) manipulates the situation in his favor and becomes a politician. Regardless of whether he dies or goes on to acquire political power after being depowered, the message is clear: some problems run too deep, and tackling one man can't be enough.
What do we know about The Boys Season 5?
As stated before, the fifth season of The Boys is its last, and it has a release window of 2026. As of now, it doesn't have a release date. Showrunner Eric Kripke posted an image of himself on the set of the series on his social media accounts. The caption accompanying the post read:
"This is the last time I'll ever be on this set. It'll be torn down soon. It's bittersweet, but my primary feeling is gratitude. To #TheBoys family: I love you. To the fans: can't wait for you to see the grand finale. That's a wrap."
However, The Boys Season 5 is not the only thing that's coming up from this universe.
Gen V Season 2 is releasing next month:
Gen V Season 2 is expected to be set after the events of The Boys Season 4, as Homelander has taken over the US. Marie Moreau, Emma Meyer, and Jordan Li are freed from the detention facility. It is also expected that the season finale of Gen V Season 2 will set up The Boys Season 5, like the first season set up the events of the fourth season.
How do you think the fifth season of The Boys should end?
