The Argentine six-episode series, Time Flies, is finally out as the show streamed in its entirety on Netflix. The dark comedy series has struck a chord with people, and it has caused some to wonder about the inspiration for the Netflix show. People are wondering, "Is Time Flies based on a book?" The answer to this question is yes.

However, the Netflix series is different because the series combines not one but two books: Tuya (2005) and El Tiempo de Las Moscas (2023). Both of these novels were written by crime novelist Claudia Piñeiro. It seems that El Tiempo de Las Moscas is a follow-up to Tuya. Therefore, instead of greenlighting the series, it seems that the makers have opted to show the backstory of Ines in Time Flies.

What is Netflix's Time Flies about?

Screenwriters Nicolás Diodovich and Gabriela Larralde were inspired by Claudia Piñeiro’s novels for this Netflix series. A woman named Ines is the main character of the novels. In the first book, Tuya, Ines is a housewife who is devastated after discovering that her husband is cheating on her. The first book focuses extensively on her crumbling marriage that culminates in Ines committing murder.

El Tiempo de Las Moscas, on the other hand, follows Ines after she is released from prison. The show mostly adapts this book, with the series splicing in scenes from Tuya for flashbacks.

Despite blending the two books, the Netflix series retains the basic plot of its literary counterparts. One of the most heart-warming aspects of the comedy series is the friendship between the main characters, Manca and Ines. The series reveals that Manca, like in the book, was an inmate in the same prison as Ines. They bond even after their respective completion of prison sentences.

After Ines is released from prison, she finds herself isolated from friends and loved ones. In this dark time, she reconnects with Manca and forms a professional and personal bond with her. The two decide to start a fumigation business. Things begin to look up for Ines until a shady client, Susana Bonar, enters her life. Susana wants Ines to retrieve a poison that is strong enough to kill something bigger than a rat.

Is there a second season for the crime series?

The Argentine dramedy has viewers hooked with its six-episode premise, and therefore, many are wondering if there will be a season 2. As of now, there are no plans for a season 2 of the dark comedy. But the fact that the series has not been marketed as a miniseries has some hopeful that the streaming giant will renew the comedy series for another season.

"Fresh out of prison and low on options, two women run a fumigation business — until a shady client pulls them back into the life they fought to escape."

All six episodes of the series are currently streaming on Netflix. If you want Time Flies Season 2, make sure to binge the series another time.
