Justin Hartley's Colter Shaw will return to his cases with a changed team when Tracker Season 3 premieres on CBS on October 19 2025.

As announced in July 2025, Tracker lost two main cast members ahead of its Season 3 debut namely Abby McEnany's Velma Bruin and Eric Graise's Bobby Exley. Both Bobby and Velma were part of Colter's core team and helped him on his challenging cases. Bobby's absence was partially filled by Chris Lee's Randy (Bobby's cousin) who will have an expanded role when Tracker returns for Season 3.

Tracker Season 3 will also feature the return of Fiona Rene, Jensen Ackles and Brent Sexton as Reenie Greene, Russell and Keaton, respectively.

More on this in our story.

Tracker Season 3 will explain Velma and Bobby's exits

Tracker Season 3 previously announced that Colter Shaw's hacker and second handler would not return in the third season. Both Bobby and Velma have departed the show before the Season 3 premiere. Since both Bobby and Velma were fan-favorite characters and integral to Colter's team, fans will naturally have questions about their exits.

In a recent interview with TV Line, showrunner Elwood Reid has assured the fans that Tracker Season 3 will explain Bobby and Velma's respective exits. According to Reid, while Velma will be off with her estranged wife, Bobby will seize a good opportunity:

“With Velma’s character, she’s going off to be with Teddy.''

Explaining Bobby's exit, Reid added:

''Bobby seized on a good opportunity. That doesn’t mean these people can’t come back, but we wanted to consolidate and build out Reenie’s office a bit more.”

Reid's comments hint that Bobby can surely return in a cameo appearance, but for now, his cousin Randy will take over the narrative after receiving a positive response from audiences in Season 2.

Randy will have an expanded role in Tracker Season 3

While Abby McEnany and Eric Graise have bid farewell to Tracker Season 3, Chris Lee's Randy is promoted as a recurring character. Randy was brought in as Bobby's replacement in Tracker Season 2 and he became a fan-favorite character in no time. Reid further explained how Randy will continue to aid Reenie and Colter, especially after the harrowing things Reenie experienced in Season 2:

“Without giving too much away, in the wake of [what happened with] Reenie — having had that breach at her company with Sharp, her being kidnapped and taken, and her boyfriend being shot — she’s in a fragile, somewhat dark place, although she’s trying to mask it.''

He added:

''One of the things that she does is she brings Randy out to get her security up to snuff. That sparks a conversation about him perhaps sticking around and working out of her office — both with Colter and helping her with her law practice.''

Additionally, Tracker Season 3 will feature a partnership between Randy and Reenie, which will aid Colter on his cases in the long run. While our tracker started as a solitary figure in Season 1, he connected with many characters in two seasons and the crime series is gradually moving towards a stable team for Colter.

Since Randy proved his skills in the previous season, it is only fair that he has an expanded role in the upcoming season. However, Reid assured his fans that Randy is not replacing any character, but will have his own place on the team as 'He makes Fiona better'.

Tracker Season 3 will premiere on CBS on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 8/7c.
