Trigger Episode 2 eventually reveals that it is just the start of a bigger chaos. As seen earlier, Jeong-tae has taken his entire residential building hostage, killing each one of the remaining people one by one.
However, the police arrive just in time to intercept, but they also sustain some major injuries. Thanks to Lee Do's presence of mind, the authorities were able to catch Jeong-tae (before he could cause any more damage), and the mystery behind the guns (that started surfacing overnight) got some light.
But is the danger over so soon? Or is it the beginning of an anarchist rebellion? Let's find out more from Trigger Episode 2.
Trigger Episode 2 is just the culmination of an armed anarchy
Trigger is a perfectly crafted thriller where the 'so far' invisible antagonist is targeting the most vulnerable, forcing them to pull the 'Trigger' - the ones who have suffered in silence for a long time, who have been treated like trash, and who have always been looked down upon. Trigger Episode 2 introduces two new layers of story in the main plot with multiple new faces.
One of them, a young handsome man named Seok-ho, is portrayed as a villainous and wealthy mobster whose first appearance is quite formidable. Seok and his close associate Yong-gu (along with his gang) are seen forcefully overtaking the business of a local man named Mr. Kim.
Seok is served by a group of local goons led by Jeong, the man who did the dirty work for him. As it becomes evident, Jeong and his team does not get the deserved recognition for the risky work they do - not even by Yong-gu.
Jeong-man is asked by Seok to take care of a brutally beaten Mr. Kim. The latter pleads for his life to Jeong and mentions that he can help him get guns - maybe take over Seok's dirty business as well.
Mr. Kim's words (even though they sound like a product of despair) strike an odd note to Jeong. He always wanted his team to get the deserved respect from Seok rather than doing all the nasty errands for him all the time.
So, after dealing with Mr. Kim, Jeong goes to Seok and reminds him of the deal they had made regarding his team coming on board the indoor operations. Seok laughs it off and puts some money in Jeong's hand - though he makes jokes about the same, his words make it clear that he would never allow them to rise in ranks.
An angry and insulted Jeong rushes out, gives the money to his gang, asks them to get some good food and clothes and rushes off to Mr. Kim's car they had dumped. Even though one of his close teammates tries to warn him, Jeong seems to be ready to pull the 'Trigger.'
And he seems to have landed in the right place when he finds a gun hidden inside the trunk of Mr. Kim's car. Could he be the next Jeong-tae? The free access to guns in a somewhat peaceful South Korea does not look good at all.
Jeong-tae's revelation seems to have shed some light on the source of the free guns
Jeong-tae is taken into custody, and the young man (who just murdered several people in cold blood) seems not to be ready to talk to anyone except Officer Lee Do. When Lee sits in front of him in the interrogation room, it is eventually revealed that Jeong-tae had received the guns in a parcel that an unknown sender dropped at his doorstep.
However, Jeong keeps playing his mind games with Lee as to who might have done it. He even addresses himself as the "champion of justice," adding that whatever he has done was to save thousands of good people from a few evil ones.
However, officer Lee ignores his provocation and goes on a wild goose chase of tracking courier companies. Surprisingly, none of the local ones seem to have any records of dropping anything at Jeong-tae's address for a very long time. Speculating that he might find something at the scene of the crime, Yeongseong Gosiwon, Lee traces his steps back.
There, he finds a group of young goons going through cardboard boxes (probably looking for more free guns). Lee's arrival promptly clears the scene, and it is at this point that he gets a crack at the case. Officer Lee Do finds a used parcel box with a particular symbol that seems familiar to him.
As he tries to recall, it suddenly dawns on him that he had seen the same type of box outside the apartment of the s*x offender Won-seong (seen in Trigger Episode 1). Without wasting a moment, Lee rushes to his place, but it is too late.
Trigger Episode 2 has already revealed that Won-seong came across the courier in the morning, found two guns inside, got them assembled, and went for a trial run near an army base camp. Lee immediately instructs his team to track his monitor.
However, it appears that Won-seong has been on the run and managed to leave his monitor behind in a car, whose owners mention that they had given him a lift. Lee Do realizes they are trailing, but he goes inside Won's apartment.
Thanks to his sharp senses, Lee is easily able to spot movements inside the house. In a thrilling round of chase in the dark, he nabs the perpetrator, who identifies himself as someone named Moon Baek (Kim Young-kwang). It adds another layer of twist to the plot as Moon mentions to Lee that he came to pick up a package - most probably a package of guns!
Trigger Episode 2 also features a sad story of teenage bullying
As we witness in Trigger Episode 2, emotional turmoil and thoughts of going to extremes are affecting the entirety of South Korea, irrespective of age. A high school student named Gyu-jin is seen getting bullied by a ruthless gang of young boys led by Seong-jun who seems to be using them for all sorts of bad demands.
But when Gyu-jin is not able to fulfill their demands, he gets beaten up really bad along with his close friend Yeong-dun. Gyu-jin almost reaches the verge of taking his own life when he suddenly gets a call from Seong-jun for his next errand - only to expose him to another round of reckless bullying.
Trigger Episode 2 finds new faces to tell the story of psychological vulnerability -how the victims are always individuals who have some trauma or a history of mental illness. Amidst all these, the introduction of Kim Young-kwang's Moon Baek might have been a pivotal creative move.
Moon Baek was looking for a package that was left at someone else's door. Does it mean free illegal arms are now at large all over South Korea? Does it imply that anarchy is not far? Officer Lee Do now sees a big challenge lying ahead of him.
