Countdown Episode 7 has less action than drama, and Volchek is getting more dangerous with each passing minute. This week's episode opens with Mark and Volchek training themselves for the days to come, but the former is seen struggling (even more) with his tumor moments after.
As the plot progresses, we see Blythe's task force keep following one lead after another, but again fail to grab an opportunity to catch the Belarusians. On the other hand, DA Valwell keeps up his act to get Special Agent Bell on his side. However, Bell eventually proves his loyalty to Nathan Blythe's leadership, and Mark leaves Oliveras in shock with his sad revelation. Follow this article to learn more about Countdown Episode 7.
Countdown Episode 7 sees Agent Bell revisiting the case that brings a new lead in Pacoima; Luke spots an anomaly
With the name Gallagher hitting a dead end, Countdown Episode 7 sees the task force struggle to find a new direction in the investigation. It is then that Special Agent Bell revisits key details of the case, and the name of a company called Caluman comes up (the only company in LA that manufactures specialized gamma tongs like the ones that were retrieved from the port of Los Angeles).
Following Blythe's instructions, Bell and Shepherd head to their office in Pacoima to acquire sales information for the last six to twelve months. On the other hand, Luke further revisits the whole investigation, which brings him to:
"The stolen Border Patrol SUV that got dumped in Compton".
The forensic lab report of the vehicle raised an eyebrow when Luke Finau went through it, as there was not even the slightest level of radiation, fibers, or dirt. As we see in Countdown Episode 7, Luke heads to the LA Impound Lot to see a friend who works there to get more information on the matter. It is later revealed that it was a stolen SUV that was reskinned—something that can be easily done anywhere in LA.
Volchek finds trouble from the Belarusian Consulate guys, and Countdown Episode 7 so far sees his coldest move
Volchek is seen visiting a "Pack & Mail" shop, where we witness him deal with an unknown man over fake passports. However, things do not go as planned, and the Belarusian Consulate's security officers turn up at the scene.
As it appears, one of them was Danill, who was killed by Volchek for his disloyalty. His disappearance raised an alarm among the Belarusians. Volchek is asked to give up the millions of dollars he has embezzled over the years and is assured safe passage to his own country in return.
Volchek, surrounded, gets desperate and strikes blows, but is eventually pinned down. He tries to repel the men with the little cash he has, but his trick does not seem to work.
However, when our Belarusian antagonist is held at gunpoint, he is forced to reveal that the remaining cash is hidden in a safe in the basement of his house. Volchek lures the Belarusians to his residence and takes them to the safe. Right after dialing the password, he hits Danill's uncle on the nose and manages to get inside the safe. Moments later, the men outside hear a ticking sound and a bomb goes off, killing them all while Volchek stays inside the safe.
Oliveras and Meachum go undercover once again in Countdown Episode 7

Meachum analyzes the ballistic reports of the bullets that were fired at the security footage company's (the one that had footage from the Belarusian Dance Hall) employees and reaches the conclusion that it was Russian military ammunition. Thanks to Oliveras' undercover connections, the task force finds a potential source of information in Pasadena.
As seen in Countdown Episode 7, Oliveras and Meachum go to Pasadena to meet their lead in the investigation, and another name, called Szabo, comes up (someone who might be dealing in Russian ammo like SR-1 Vektor or SR-2 Veresk). As they meet with Szabo, Oliveras (under the alias Becky Garcia) sets the perfect pitch to lure the lead into spilling critical information.
However, Szabo suspects them when Oliveras asks too many questions and tries to run. But thanks to Mark's on-field skills, our buyer is eventually caught. On further interrogation, Szabo opens up, saying the men he has dealt with were PMCs, or Private Military Investigators whose company is Iskanders (ISK).
As revealed by Agent Bell in Countdown Episode 7:
"They specialize in Eastern Block soliders trained by SSO or Spertsnaz."
It is also learned that the local office of the Iskanders is led by a guy named Andrej Sobol (who has been portrayed as a close associate and assistant to our antagonist Volchek). Andrej is a guy with vast military experience, and his past records were never found in databases, implying that he has criminal records.
However, as the task force gears up and storms into their Culver City office with the S.W.A.T., they find it empty, except for a man named Jan Karmanov, attorney for Iskanders Group, who is seen sitting in an empty office ready to comply with their warrantless search. Karmanov was probably tipped off before about the raid, and the Iskanders Group's lead also meets a dead end, leaving the task force in the dark once again in Countdown Episode 7.
Doubts arise, Blythe confronts the S.W.A.T. about potential leaks on their part, and Agent Bell proves his loyalty to the task force
Nathan Blythe has a heated confrontation with S.W.A.T. commander Aynesworth about who might have tipped off the Iskanders about the raid. All fingers naturally point towards the S.W.A.T,. as it is the first time Blythe had brought them on board for "a breach action," and things go awry.
While the two of them engage in a blame game, it remains to be seen who actually leaked information to the Iskanders Group. On the other hand, we have already seen at the beginning of Countdown Episode 7 that Agent Bell is approached by DA Valwell, where the latter promises the young officer to rise in the ranks in return for critical information about the task force's investigation.
Bell is seen to have an inner struggle between two things: help someone from outside the department to ensure his promotion, or stay loyal to his leader (Nathan Blythe) and his task force. However, his heart and head finally align as he takes the right decision to steer clear of DA Valwell and tells him he does not want to take up his offer. One line from Nathan Blythe is what probably knocked Bell back to his senses:
"I have the best on this task force."
Mark stuns Oliveras with his terminal illness in Countdown Episode 7, while the task force misses Volchek again
The task force finally cracks the mystery of Gallagher in Countdown Episode 7 (thanks to Shepherd's tech skills). It is the name of a freight company whose trucks were used by Volchek to transport fissile materials.
They get in touch with Gallagher Freight to get the location of their last truck delivery, and the team wastes no time in rushing to the spot, only to find the whole warehouse empty. It appears that Volchek has moved his base once again, but now at least the task force has a solid lead to follow.
On the other hand, Oliveras turns up at Mark's place (the two have been seen to bond quite much over the past few episodes), and the former seems concerned about our protagonist's health. She gives Mark some medication to help with his migraines (as he had mentioned to her).
The two have a drink together when Mark suddenly reveals his terminal illness out of the blue, and Oliveras is totally taken aback. Mark's lines about drinking hurt us to the core:
"Nothing else seems to work."
The overall mood of Countdown Episode 7 is a bit dramatic. As it appears, the plot is still culminating, and the climax is not far. Moreover, the title "Nothing Else Helps" actually signifies Mark's deteriorating health, and now it's just a "Countdown" to his final moments, which he wants to live serving his nation.
