Netflix's latest mystery thriller drama, The Hunting Wives, has consistently been at one of the top streaming spots since its premiere this week. With suspense, drama, mystery, and murder centering on a star-studded cast, the show is even doing well in terms of RT numbers.
Brittany Snow has played the lead role - a woman named Sophie O'Neil whose life is turned upside down once she changes cities with her husband Graham (played by Evan Jonigkeit). Margo Banks (Malin Maria Åkerman) is another key character whose involvement in Sophie's life (after she moves to East Texas) only invites trouble.
Margo has been portrayed as a tumultuous, wealthy socialite (and a part of an elite group called The Hunting Wives) who ends up killing a local girl named Abby (played by Madison Wolfe) in order to save herself from a big scandal (Abby was blackmailing her). Moreover, Margo's husband was running for governor of Maple Brook at the moment, so she also went to extremes to protect her family's public image - sadly, that involved the homicide of an innocent teenager in The Hunting Wives.
Margo ends up murdering Abby in The Hunting Wives to protect her family's social image and save herself from a scandal
Margo has consistently shown recklessness in her approach whenever it came down to relationships. She has a wild side, and it even ended up affecting Sophie once the two of them got close to each other.
As seen in The Hunting Wives, Margo Banks (due to her obvious issues) gets herself involved in an affair with a local teenage boy named Brad (played by George Ferrier). However, Brad was at the same time already romantically involved with Abby, who happens to be the daughter of Jill, the town reverend's better half.
Jill was never happy about Brad and Abby's relationship and wanted them to break up. Moreover, as seen in The Hunting Wives, rumors had spread that Abby was pregnant with Brad's child. So, when Abby gets murdered, the townspeople start blaming Jill, and following her death in an encounter with Callie and Margo, the investigation goes cold.
But the truth is not revealed until the final moments in The Hunting Wives Season 1 when Sophie comes across tampons in Margo's bedroom (when the two were romantically involved with each other). This raises suspicion, and after researching, Sophie learns that when someone gets an abortion, the use of tampons following the procedure is not recommended.
Sophie thus becomes sure that Margo had lied to her and upon her further discussion with Brad, she gets to know that Abby never got an abortion (as she was not even pregnant in the first place). It was Abby who had an abortion (with the help of her biological father), and she was carrying Brad's child inside her.
This shocking revelation makes Sophie go out of her mind, and she confronts her 'so-called' friend Margo. As The Hunting Wives finale nears its conclusion, we see Margo confessing all that she did wrong - she even confessed to murder. Now, why did she exactly do it?
Well, Maple Brook, East Texas, is a small town where abortion is something that is looked down upon. Moreover, Margo's husband Jed, was even fighting to pass an anti-abortion bill while carrying out his election campaign for governor. So, when Abby confronted Margo and told her that she knew about her scandal, the latter panicked.
Margo is even seen confessing to Sophie that she ended up killing Abby because she was threatening to reveal her secrets to the people of Maple Brook. Desperate to save her public image and her husband's chance to become governor, Margo ended up murdering Abby.
