Netflix continues its mystery thriller streak with yet another show in line titled Untamed. This time, the creative supervision comes from The Revenant's Mark L. Smith, who is helming the series alongside Elle Smith, per Tudum.

Just a few hours back, Netflix released the first official teaser for Untamed, where the premise is set in Yosemite National Park. Eric Bana (known from Hulk, Troy, and Munich) is a part of the ensemble that also comprises Jurassic Park legend Sam Neill. Untamed will exclusively premiere on Netflix this July, and here is a look at the official synopsis of the show, per IMDb:

The latest one-minute-long teaser of Untamed features a thrilling journey through the wilderness of Yosemite National Park, focusing on Eric Bana's character, Kyle Turner (who is an investigator appointed by the National Parks Service).

Among the executive producers of Untamed, we have:

  • John Wells (on behalf of John Wells Productions)
  • Cliff Roberts
  • Escape Artists Entertainment
  • Steve Lee Jones (from Bee Holder Productions)

Warner Bros. is co-producing the Netflix thriller show, which is set for a July 17 premiere, alongside the above-mentioned names. The teaser opens with the line:

"People come here to explore. They see maybe 10% of the park."

The clip also portrays an unnamed girl who is seen venturing through the National Park, and in the later part of the teaser, it seems like she is being followed by an unknown force. It appears that Yosemite is a place that hides a lot of mysteries, and at the center of it all is Kyle Turner, who is in charge of enacting the laws of the forest.

But things go awry when a harrowing homicide shakes up Yosemite, and Turner is assigned the case with his friend and Chief Ranger of the National Park, Paul Souter (portrayed by Sam Neill), overseeing the whole of it, according to Tudum. It also turns out that Turner has his own dark past to deal with, and the latest brutal development puts the whole thing in perspective.

According to Mark L. Smith's statement, per Tudum:

"Everyone thinks of Yosemite as this beautiful place with all the vistas and all the scenery, but we were trying to touch on the dangers that are just beyond that. I love stripping all the cheats away, stripping all the more modern tools that people can use. It really gets down to the character and what they can find within themselves."

As per Tudum, an amateur and a newly recruited park ranger named Naya Vasquez (portrayed by Lily Santiago) assists Turner in solving the case. Her point of view, as mentioned by helmer Elle Smith, gives the unfiltered picture of the National Park. To quote his exact words:

"We get to understand what this job is, and see the beauty of the park, but also the dangers."
