Fans of Untamed can rejoice, as the series is coming back for Season 2! The hit series premiered on Netflix on July 17, 2025, with six episodes. The series follows the story of National Parks Service agent Kyle Turner (played by Eric Bana), who uncovers many dark secrets while investigating a mysterious murder case. Untamed Season 2 will take place in a new setting with agent Kyle looking to solve another riveting case.

While Season 1 was initially meant to be a limited series, Untamed garnered a remarkable 24.6 million views in the first week, which saw the swift renewal. The show is also on Netflix’s global top 10 list.

The series, created by Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, is set to bring a new mystery in Untamed Season 2. As per Tudum by Netflix, Mark said:

“Elle and I envisioned it as a stand-alone, six episodes. But then the more that we got into it, it was just such a great cast … it was just like, ‘Oh yeah, how do we keep this going?’”

Bana also said that he was looking forward to Kyle’s journey in Untamed Season 2:

“I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of Untamed to life. The response to Season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can’t wait to take Kyle on his next journey. Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans.”

What to expect in Untamed Season 2?

At the end of Season 1 of Untamed, we see Investigative Services Branch Agent of the National Parks Service, Kyle Turner, moving away from Yosemite National Park after solving one of the more disturbing cases of his career. Nonetheless, Turner will be getting acquainted with new parks and new people. The audience will meet him in a new location in Untamed Season 2. Elle shared with the following with Tudum:

“We’ve done Yosemite. What’s the next park that could feel different from that? Each national park has such a different cultural identity, geographical identity. Being able to explore those places through the case and through Turner’s journey is what's so fascinating.”

Elle further added:

“Our theme has been that this park is our main character, this park is sort of alive. We do want to maintain that thread. Whichever park we choose will be a character and it will kind of play a role in Turner’s emotional frame of mind.”

The creators are eager to develop a compelling case for Untamed Season 2 that will effectively adapt to the new location. Mark revealed:

“We can make the case organic to a different kind of park, a different kind of landscape, (and) not have someone just fall off another mountain.”

They also quipped that Untamed Season 2 will take Turner out of his comfort zone with new characters and settings. Mark explained:

“Turner was so comfortable in Yosemite. He was the one leading this charge, and people followed him. And now, (we’re) putting Kyle on his back foot, making him very uncomfortable … This time we get to follow Turner into a park and let him lead us, and we stumble along with him as he’s kind of finding his way.”

The Season 1 cast included Sam Neill, Lily Santiago, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Wilson Bethel. Whether Untamed Season 2 will see them reprise their characters remains to be seen. Mark threw some light:

“We’re trying to figure that stuff out because my God, we loved our cast and we loved the characters that they brought to life. In an ideal world, we would be able to pull something off.”

Untamed Season 1 currently holds an 80% critics score and a 71% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Top Critic, Rebecca Onion of Slate wrote:

“Bana and Smith know how to keep you watching, even when parts of the story start to feel familiar. In the summer, we’re all tourists. A Yosemite story hits just right.”

While Robert Levin of Newsday wrote:

“It's a smart and compelling drama, with some great acting and a real sense of place.”
