“Wanted to do it so badly”: Tulsa King star Sylvester Stallone shares how Samuel L. Jackson joined the crime drama

Tulsa King Season 3 premiered its penultimate episode on November 16, 2025. It featured one of the most anticipated guest stars, Samuel L. Jackson. The episode introduced the popular actor's character, Russell Lee Washington Jr., who will be appearing in the upcoming Taylor Sheridan series, NOLA King. In the episode, it is revealed that Russell has known Dwight for 20 years and is loyal to him.

Recently, while talking to Us Weekly, Sylvester Stallone, who plays Dwight Manfredi in Tulsa King, shared that it was Jackson himself who wanted to be a part of the show and approached them. He shared:

"He was the aggressor. He wanted to do it so badly."

Tulsa King: Sylvester Stallone reveals that Samuel L. Jackson wanted to join the show

In the penultimate episode titled, Dead Weight, of Tulsa King Season 3, Jackson's character, Russell Washington Jr., is shown to carry out a hit in a New Jersey hotel. The deadly assassin is next tasked by Ray Renzetti, his boss, to go to Tulsa and kill Stallone's character, Dwight Manfredi.

Later, they are both shown in a bar where it is revealed that Russell and Dwight have known each other for two decades after being in prison together, where Dwight even saved his life. Russell informs Dwight that he was asked by Renzetti to kill him, but he refused to do it. He also warned the mob boss that Renzetti was after him.

Viewers have been waiting for the Hollywood actor's introduction since he was announced to be a part of the Tulsa King Universe. However, Stallone revealed that it was Jackson himself who asked to be a part of the show and approached the producer of the crime drama.

To add to his previous comment to Us Weekly, Stallone further shared:

"He went to the producer. The producer came to me."

He further praised the 76-year-old actor and his confidence on set and stated:

"He walks onto the set with complete confidence. He knows he’s got it. He knows he’s the man. He’s has a certain swagger. I feel like, here it comes, high noon. It’s gonna be a gunfight between us two. He brings out the best."

He further added:

"Actors love to be challenged. At first, there may be a little intimidation, but once you get cooking. After the first punch is thrown, now you’re in it."

In the episode, Russell revealed to Dwight that he wanted to return to NOLA, hinting at his latest series, starring him. The finale of Tulsa King Season 3 will premiere on November 23, 2025, and while it is not yet confirmed, it might also feature Samuel L. Jackson again.


Along with Sylvester Stallone, the Taylor Sheridan crime drama also stars Martin Starr, Vincent Piazza, Dana Delany, Jay Will, Dana Delany, Annabella Sciorra, Frank Grillo, Robert Patrick, and Neal McDonough, among several others.
