Sherlock Holmes has officially joined Watson Season 2. After being presumed dead, the world’s favorite detective entered Watson’s home like an intruder in the first episode of the second season.
Fans were left wondering whether Sherlock is actually alive or is just being imagined by Watson. Since the doctor had heard the detective’s voice in his hallucinations before, the audience thought he might be hallucinating again.
CBS has now unveiled a preview for Watson Season 2 Episode 2, which seemingly confirms that Sherlock is alive for real. In the sneak peek, the detective reveals that he faked his death with ‘trickery.’
Watson Season 2 Episode 2 preview confirms Sherlock Holmes is alive
At the end of the previous episode, A Son in the Oven, Watson was in bed with Laila when he heard an intruder entering his home. The preview of Watson Season 2 Episode 2 teases Watson moving to his kitchen with a bat, ready to hit the intruder.
However, he is instead shocked to see his best friend, Sherlock Holmes, who casually searches for food in his refrigerator like it’s no big deal. Watson asks him the obvious question: how is he alive, to which Sherlock replies, ‘Trickery.’
The detective then explains why he faked his death, and reveals that he has lived most of his life, and wanted to spend the rest of his days away from the limelight, while he waited for the right time for a surprise comeback. Sherlock says:
“I’m closer to the end now than I am to the beginning. And if I’m to spend my remaining energy in the way I intend, I had to clear the stage. How else can one spring a third-act surprise?”
Sherlock then teases Watson about whether he is going to hit him with the bat, and the two then finally hug each other, reuniting after a long time. While Sherlock was thought to be dead in the first season of the mystery medical drama, Robert Carlyle is playing the character in Watson Season 2.
Elsewhere in Episode 2, aptly titled Back from the Dead, the doctors have to deal with the case of a microbiology university researcher and her team who get infected by a pathogen after a research project in Siberia. The official logline for the episode reads:
“When a microbiology university researcher returns from an expedition to Siberia, she and her team members fall ill from a possible revived pathogen; Watson catches up with his friend Sherlock Holmes after finding out he is alive.”
Watson Season 2 Episode 2 will be aired on CBS on October 20, 2025. The show stars Morris Chestnut as John Watson, Tika Sumpter as Laila Bynum, Eve Harlow as Ingrid Derian, Peter Mark Kendall as Stephens Croft and Adam Croft, Ritchie Coster as Shinwell Johnson, Rochelle Aytes as Mary Morstan, and Inga Schlingmann as Sasha Lubbock.
