Fire Country star Diane Farr summed up the impossible tightrope Sharon Leone is walking in Season 4. After all, it’s not every day that a woman loses the love of her life in what shook Station 42 to its core and then is surrounded by whispers of a possible romance before the ashes have even cooled.

She said:

"We’ll see how it goes. But I love where it is so far. She’s really working through this right now."

In an exclusive with Us Weekly, Farr admitted that when she learned Season 4 would pick up with Vince’s death, she made one small request: let Sharon grieve like a human being. She acknowledges the double standard between how audiences treat widowers versus widows. And she’s right, men remarry and it’s considered healing; women move on and suddenly it’s "too soon."

"I said I really would not like to have a love interest (...) Women, we are meant to observe our loved ones after they are gone — and there was no way I’m ever going to replace this."

Still, Farr even kept Sharon’s wedding ring on to make sure nothing about this loss felt rushed or glossed over. And with a season shaped by explosions and exits from Billy Burke and Stephanie Arcila, Sharon needed honesty.

Sharon Leone’s grief in Fire Country Season 4

If Season 3 ended with a blaze, Season 4 kicks off with emotion. The memory care facility fire left Sharon, Walter, and Vince trapped. Though Sharon survived, the fallout was catastrophic. Vince’s death was a turning point.

Farr explained that Sharon is "really working through this right now" on Fire Country, and Station 42 is rattled. Bode’s grief is a storm as Manny breaks the news to him. And behind all that, Sharon is trying to figure out who she is when half of her long-held identity suddenly goes silent.

But Farr’s reflections go beyond Sharon’s marriage. She noted that, unlike her character, she didn’t meet her own partner at age 20. "I’ve shared my life with so many," she said, not like Sharon’s bond with Vince. That negotiation between a woman who built her life in a pair and an actress who’s lived many lives is shaping the nuanced version of Sharon we’re seeing this season.

Will Sharon find love again on Fire Country?

Now, despite firmly stating she didn’t want romance shoved onto Sharon, Farr has undeniable chemistry with newcomer Brett (Shawn Hatosy). And she knows it.

She joked when he arrived:

"Oh God, please don’t give me a love interest yet."

Still, she praised Hatosy as an actor, and Farr’s openness to "see how it goes" leaves the door cracked. And while it may not be for now, it will be someday. The show is clearly playing the longest of long games, right?

And that’s not all Sharon has to contend with. Her estranged mother (Christine Lahti) is rolling into town and apparently bringing chaos to Fire Country. Sharon confessed that her mother has seen "the worst sides of her."

Fire Country airs Fridays on CBS and streams the next day on Paramount+.
