One of the most interesting characters in Wednesday Season 2 is the enigmatic and cunning Principal Barry Dort, played by Steve Buscemi. Arriving as the new head at Nevermore Academy, Dort has stood out in no time due to his pyrokinetic powers and secret agenda.

His multifaceted character has amazed fans and kept them speculating whether his intentions were leading to redemption or impending doom. His schemes were becoming more and more dangerous as the season continued, threatening to tear down the very underpinnings of Nevermore. At the end, the only question that remained was whether Principal Dort survived the big battle or whether this was the end of his story.

The ambiguity of what happens to Dort in Wednesday Season 2 has added weight to his character development and, more importantly, to the larger direction. The fact that he was associated with the cult of Morning Song and tried to manipulate the fortune of Morticia Addams’ mother related him directly to the main conflict of the entire season.

The story has been propelled by betrayal, power games, and supernatural beings, so Dort's outcome has been ingrained with uncertainty. The ending was going to provide an answer: Would this figure burn out, or ignite further havoc on the future of Nevermore?

Let us take a look at what happened to Principal Barry Dort and what it means for the series moving forward.

In Wednesday Season 2, the story of Barry Dort took a twist when it was revealed to be so much more than the eccentric headmaster he initially portrayed himself to be. Although his pyrokinetic abilities made him appear to be a freak, it was soon revealed that he was the brains behind the Morning Song cult, the group who were causing havoc to Bianca Barclay and others at the academy.

According to sources such as Parade and SuperHeroHype, Dort actually wanted to cheat his way to the riches of Grandmama Hester Frump. He planned to capitalize on the siren abilities of Bianca and create a fraudulent fundraising event at Nevermore.

These plans failed miserably at the Nevermore Gala, where the season culminated. Wednesday, Enid, and Agnes collaborate to steal the necklace of Dort, which guarded him against sirens, leaving him with no power over Bianca. No longer under his influence, Bianca applied her powers to make Dort admit his crimes in front of the whole school.

Cornered and desperate, Dort lashed out, casting a flame that set a huge chandelier afire above. However, his reckless decision turned against him. Dort was turned into stone by Ajax with his Gorgon powers right as the chandelier crashed. The blow caused his shattered body to fall in bits, and he died instantly.

At the end of Wednesday Season 2, it was actually announced that Principal Barry Dort was dead and his controlling rule at Nevermore would finally come to an end.

Interestingly, the creators of the show disclosed to Tudum that they did not intend to kill Dort. Rather, his own rash decision-making, shooting in the air, and lighting the chandelier on fire, was what brought his doom. There was a certain poetic justice to the moment: no other character killed him, but his own recklessness is what finally ended him.

Wednesday is the Netflix supernatural mystery series based on Wednesday Addams, the legendary character of the Addams Family universe. The show is a blend of the gothic style, dark humor, and paranormal mystery. The audience follows Wednesday on her way to Nevermore Academy, the school of outcasts and phantoms. In the process, she reveals secrets, takes on enemies, and cracks some mysteries using her psychic powers and wit.

Produced by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and featuring Jenna Ortega in the title role, Wednesday is based on the legacy of the Addams Family, but invents its own mythology and plots.

Season 1 was a critical and commercial success that combined themes of murder mystery and coming-of-age. Wednesday Season 2 broadened the parameters, unleashing new villains, cults, and intricate mysteries within the walls of Nevermore. Combining suspense, supernatural drama, and challenges of adolescence, the series has already drawn viewers across the globe and is building up expectations for future seasons.

In Wednesday Season 2, principal Barry Dort brought in a new dimension of threat. His arrival restored the leadership void left by Principal Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie), and increased tension within Nevermore. The combination of pyrokinetic powers and conman tricks attracted viewers to the show as the plot remained unpredictable and full of suspense.

The death of Dort again leaves Nevermore without a head, adding to the revolving door sotuation where principals come and go. Fans are already considering who would fill the role in Season 3, and whether Dort will still cast a shadow on the school with his legacy of schemes.

Meanwhile, several strings are left hanging with other villains and supernatural mysteries, leaving Wednesday and her allies open to greater challenges.
