Morning Song is a cult/movement that Barry Dort, the fraudster principal of Nevermore Academy, founded. However, the face of the cult was Gideon, aka Arnold Hunt. Wednesday Season 2: What is the origin of the Morning Song cult?

To know more about the Morning Song cult, we need to roll back 15 years. In the opening scenes of Wednesday Season 2 Episode 7, we saw how Barry Dort met Arnold Hunt at a Florida bar. Arnold was a bartender, and Barry recognised him as a charming theatre artist. Turns out Arnold left his L.A. after he was written off from a soap opera where his character's name was Dr. Gideon Sterling. When dreams of becoming an actor were crushed, he joined the Tiki Tails bar in Florida as a bartender.

Little did he know that the conversation would alter his life forever. Barry Dort, the master manipulator, hyped him and asked him to be the face of his movement that would use outcasts' power to plunder money. Even though Arnold was a bit hesitant, Barry hyped him up and asked him to use his charm and led the movement, while the main mastermind behind its functions would still be Barry.

To convince him further, Barry gave him a couple of books/leaflets. But when Arnold asked the name of the movement, Barry froze. He hadn't thought of it ahead. In a scramble, his eyes landed on a coaster printed with the words Morning Song, and just like that, his money laundering cult suddenly had a name.

And with that, the Morning Song cult was born. It was no accident but a well-thought-out plan, and it became Barry Dort's weapon. Gabrielle's siren powers and Gideon's charm drew in followers, and they plundered money. And above all was Barry Dort, who pulled the strings of the cult.

In Wednesday Season 2, Barry Dort's hunger for power and money turned out to be fatal for him. In Part 1, we saw how Bianca tried to rescue her mother and kept her hidden first in an inn and then in Nevermore. But soon, Barry Dort found out about Bianca's mother and blackmailed Bianca into using her powers to manipulate Wednesday's grandmother into donating her wealth to Nevermore.

Barry planned to escape to Venezuela with the money. But when he asked Gideon to tag along, he refused. This left Barry agitated, and he used his outcast power to burn down Gideon.

Wednesday Season 2: How did Barry Dort die?

Barry Dort's death in Wednesday Season 2 is truly satisfying, and it puts an end to the years of manipulation and fraud. It starts with his devious plan to loot Wednesday's grandmother's wealth by using Bianca's siren powers.

However, when Wednesday learns about this, she urges Bianca to help her take down Barry Dort. During the fundraising gala, Bianca uses her power on Barry Dort, who unintentionally spills out his plans in front of the audience, leaving them in utter shock. In the meantime, during Enid and Agnes' performance, they steal the necklace from Barry Dort, which he used to control Bianca's powers.

Furious, he takes Bianca hostage and tries to burn her, but sets a chandelier on fire by mistake. Ajax uses his Gorgon powers, and Barry turns to stone. When the chandelier comes crashing down, Barry's statue is crushed to dust right in the middle of the stage.
